Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

I'm still in AZ (Tucson right now)....I've been stumbling around the state since I arrived for Quartzsite in mid-January. My motorcycle is sold as is the trailer he traveled in. I bought a new-to-me Grand Vitara and am now working on getting all the parts & pieces needed to tow it.

I hope to hit Moab before the end of the month then I am doing the Grand Canyon HOP with the Escapees, followed by a weekend with lady rider friends in another William, AZ campground. After that I'll visit family in the Denver area before slowly moving towards Gillette for the Escapade.

Hi All,

I am currently traveling in caravan with a couple (the Farmers) whom I met in Eureka last summer. Together we left De Funiak Springs, FL about a month ago and we have been moving roughly NE every since. Visited St. Mary's, the Golden Isles, Savannah, Charleston, and are now back in Myrtle Beach (but only for two nights). Tomorrow we leave for Surf City, NC then continue north thru, among other places, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, and Fredericksburg, VA. Then we will part company, the Farmers will continue northward while I hightail it SW to Branson and the RV-Dreams rally. After that I will park the rig and join my brother in what is becoming an annual roadtrip. We plan on heading back northeast aiming for Vermont, Maine, and eastern Canada.

Scott Gad
P.S. Any suggestions out there about where I can take my class A diesel pusher to get new tires installed? I'd prefer one day, in and out service. What should I expect it to cost per tire (6 total)? Which brand tire is the best?

Hey Scott, the one place that consistently seems to be mentioned is Discount Tires. I heard about it (three times) AFTER I got mine done at Camping World. The one great thing is their hazard policy on the tires. http://www.discounttire.com

You can use that to find a location and call them...the web site only lets you size car/truck tires. I used them for my Suzuki Grand Vitara when I was in Tucson.

We just bought 22.5 inch tires for our MH last fall from Camping World.
We got Goodyears as they have the G-670 RV.  We made an appointment at CW in at 9 and out before 12 and on our way, this was for all six tries.  These tires have a special compound made for RV's, none of the other tire companies have this formula.biggrin
But, what ever you buy or where you buy, buy in Delaware or New Hampshire as these states have no TAX and it brings the tire cost down.  smile

I'm new to being solo.  I've encountered some life challenges that have put me on the road solo.  I know there is a reason for everything, and I know new doors will be open for me....if I look.  I've had a charmed life so far, and have no regrets.  (Please don't feel sorry for me....I've done THAT plenty for myself!!!)

I'm heading to SW Colorado and SE Utah for the next 6 weeks or so.  I was going there even before I Howard & Linda's fabulous experiences convinced me.

Hi all you solos. I'm Fran, new to this place, but it's one of the best I've seen so I'll probably hang around a lot. Right now I'm at Lake Georgetown in a COE park just outside Georgetown, TX. Will be heading back to Livingston tomorrow to begin working through my "stuff" and getting the house ready to sell. Let me know if you're in the neighborhood.

Hi Fran and all,  I'm Jim and I've been lurking here for a few years admiring the adventures of Howard & Linda, Froggi and others as I counted down to my retirement. I got my Ca home sold and hit the road 7/2/08 and I'm now in the Black Hills for a few weeks at my summer base camp. As soon as I get my SD domicile, license & registrations taken care of, I'll be taking off through Mt to Glacier NP and then north to south through ID and back to SD via Teton & Yellowstone NP's.

Hey everyone, I'm way behind in blog posting, blog reading and ditto for emails. Since I hit the Escapade in Gillette, life has been a whirlwind! Tomorrow I head up to Conestoga Campground in White Sulphur Springs, MT where I will be workamping until the week after Labor Day.

Hi everyone,

I checked over my last entry which was part a history of where I had been and partly a forecast of where I intend to be and saw that it was time for an update.

First though a word to Froggi--Conestoga is my 'home' campground for purposes of obtaining memberships into C2C and RPI. I have never been there in person although I look forward to visiting it for a long stay some day. I do remember that the owner and staff who helped me with my memberships and any questions were super nice.

So on July 5th I returned to the ABC campground in Branson where I had stored my rig prior to my 'brotherly' road trip and arranged to stay put for another 6 days. On the 11th I traveled up to the Springfield/Route 66 KOA, about 18 miles west of Springfield, MO, where I have reserved a site for a month (great rate). I figure I can use this time to recharge my batteries, get my diesel engine and generator serviced by Cummins, and maybe even get some things done to the rig at the new Camping World that just opened up here. I can also get check ups scheduled with local doctors covered under my TRS health insurance--fortunately the insurance company maintains an online database of all doctors nationwide who are part of the 'network' so finding one is no problem.

For now I am really just trying to get used to the lack of a schedule for awhile--it seems like I have had some place to be or something to do constantly for months now.

Hey Scott,
I'm at Conestoga now and it's a nice little park. This is the second year for these owners and there is a lot they want to do but have to ration things out. I think I'm really going to like it.

Today my friend and I rode his trike up to Great Falls and visited the Lewis & Clark intrepetive center as well as the Great Springs State Park & Fish Hatchery. Gorgeous ride up there and back, lots of great scenery.

Have another solo here (Escapees SOLOS member as well) and this is his home park and his first visit here as well.

Dear fellow soloists,

I have for a while now been suffering from stomach problems.  When I arrived here in central Florida in early December, since I planned to be here for 5 months, I had already determined to address health issues during my stay and had already lined up a local general physician well in advance.  I first went in to see him in late December.  He then lined me up with several specialist in the area to not only determine the cause of my immediate complaint but to address several long standing issues--my heart as a continuing follow-up relating to my double bypass surgery from 2005 and my thyroid which I have been treating for several years now.
About 4 or 5 weeks ago, after being referred to a gastrointestinal specialist, I underwent a combined colonoscopy and endoscopy exam.  It took 3 weeks for the results of these tests to come back from pathology.  They found something wrong at the base of my esophagus where it enters the stomach.  At the time my eldest brother, Shay, and I agreed not to tell anyone else in the family until I learned more in order to avoid unduly alarming anyone.  This past Tuesday I visited with a local oncologist and, although I do not really know much more at this point then before, he definitely verified that I have cancer of the esophagus.  This past Thursday morning I had an appointment to undergo a CT scan at the medical facilities in Celebration, Florida and last Saturday I had an appointment to get a PET scan in Orlando. Next Friday I will revisit with the oncologist to review the results .  I am told that between these two procedures, the doctor should be able to identify what stage it is in and whether it is localized or spread out and, if spread out, how much so.    From there he should be able to prescribe our course of action--surgery, radiation therapy, or chemo or, as is most likely, some combination of at least two of the three.
You should know that I am not in any pain at this time and am functioning somewhat normally.  I have two good friends and traveling companions, Russ and Susan Farmer, who are parked right next door to me here in the campground to help me out and provide moral support and Shay is being exceedingly supportive from his home in Cary, North Carolina--we talk nightly and he is ready to fly down on a moment's notice should/when I need him.  Be aware that I am remaining upbeat and have every confidence that with their support and the thoughts, well wishes, and prayers of all of my other friends and family out there I will beat this thing.
I am determined that, God willing, this will have a minimal impact on my continued solo  RVing.   I value the advice and suggestions coming from both the Farmers and my brother as to how I should proceed from here but realize that they may very well lack a grasp of the lure that this lifestyle and my regard for continued independence will influence any decisions I will make concerning how, when, and where I go forward regarding my future medical treatment and recovery.  I return to this forum because I realize that it offers me a unique place to seek out the advice of my fellow solo RVers who share this perspective.  So I am issuing a plea to all of you who have experienced a similar situation while on the road--and any of the rest of you who feels that they may have some sage advice to contribute--as to the best way to handle this without compromising this lifestyle any more then necessary.

Thanks and highest regards,
Scott Gad

Froggi,

I read both this message and the one you posted on the Community Chat thread.  I appreciated your responses and want you to know how much it helps to know that I have so many friends and well wishers such as yourself out there.  Particularly for us soloers--which I am happy (for you) to know that you are no longer among--knowing that there are those out there who care provides a great source of strength in time of tribulations such as I am now facing.  Thank you.

Scott

Greetings, Scott!

Not a solo or a fultimer, but having lived alone a number years before remarrying, and having no immediate family, I think that qualifies me to address one portion of input you are seeking.

I am not sure there is a really much difference between being in stix & brix or a MH.  I never have lived close to family and depended upon myself, and a very few friends, for what I required when sick.  I acknowledge my illnesses and surgery may not compare to what you now face.  I do know that friends can be extended family.  Some stronger than blood kin.

That said, I am in Jacksonville, FL, and realize that is not real close to you, however please let me know if you require  assistance you are not able to muster locally.

There is no place very far from anywhere when someone needs help.

God bless.
Charles

Hi all:

I just joined RV-Dreams and have had a lot of welcome's. I am impressed with all of you.

I have just been reading everyone's stories, travels, concerns and lies (biggrin).

I was looking into the rally in April. I am thinking about going to that. I am not ready to full time yet, but I will be solo.

I have room for anyone that needs to overnite in So. Florida. I have water and electric hook up. If anyone is going to the rally from So. Florida I sure would tag along behind you or in front of you.

I am really looking forward to a different and new adventure in my RV and meeting new friends.  I could be a fulltimer if I decide in the future that it's what I really want to do. I would need to experience the life style to make up my mind.

I hope to run into some of you whenever possible.

Thanks for all the enjoyable reading.
Linda

Hey Linda,

My wife and I will be attending the rally also.  We are from the West Coast of Florida - St. Petersburg.  Maybe we will fall in behind you on the East coast of Florida on the way up.  If not then we look froward to meeting you there.

Looks like a convoy will be fun. I am getting excited about this first trip as a solo.

I am going to Atlanta for the Thanksgiving week and when I return I am going to make reservations then. I am flying not driving the MH. disbelief what a shame.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Just finished the rally in SC. I had a blast. I learned alot as well. I then headed west to Acworth Ga, Mckinney campground. Will be here for 14 days, then on to Ashville to the Escapees rally. Back to Acworth until the end of May. Taking grandchildren and a few children to Maine. Maybe summer in Maine and from there I haven't made any other plans.

I was thinking about going out to the balloon fiestable in Oct. but too far for me to go on my own. Maybe a convoy heading that way I would consider it. If not back to Miami for the winter.

Where are you all hiding?

Brian,

I will be headed to Moab on I-70 west and I know they had a rock slide by Glenwood Springs. Did you go through that area and if you did how much of the rock slide do they have cleaned up?
