Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hello all,
I'm John, plan on retiring in May 2009, DW is retired.  We enjoy traveling in our 2003 HR 30SKS TT but were thinking we would need something larger for FTing.  We are going to look at 2 Doubletree Select Suite's tomorrow.  I need to check my calendar for the 2008 rally, hope we can make it.

Welcome to the RV Dreams community!  This is a great place to learn, make friends, and have a great time.

We started our fulltiming in a 36' gas motor home with 2 slides.  After the first year, we realized we wanted a bit more space and power, so we just upgraded to a 40' diesel pusher with 4 slides.  So far, so good!

The year will go quickly....wishing you the best in your planning.

Welcome to one of the friendliest forums on the web.

Most travel trailers don't have enough storage space or load-carrying capacity for full-timing. That's why most full-timers go with either a 5th wheel or a MH.

You've got plenty of time to research the right RV for you.smile

Don't be in such a hurry to trade RV's. If you have enough space in your TT for most of what you want to take, try it for a while just to get a better idea of the way YOU want to do it. Every one is a little different in the way we go about things. Not better just different. Experience is the best teacher and a little time can help you better define what you really want in a full time rig.

I absolutely agree with Al. We had the opportunity to live in our fifthwheel for 14 months while I was transferred to a Plant out of state. That 14 months helped us define exactly what we needed and wanted in a fulltime rig. After 18 months of fulltiming there are still things that I would like to add to the rig but they are not essentials. That 14 months paid in dividends, so Al is right on the money. By spending time in what you have will help you define your lifestyle and what your requirements are.

I'm also new to this forum. Just found rvdreams last week and have been so busy reading all the adventures of Howard & Linda. Have enjoyed it so much.
My husband and I have a 31 ft tt. We may consider fulltiming sometime in the future. I too was wondering how it would be to start out in a tt. My thought was to try it out for a year and see how it goes. Our model is pretty roomy inside but storage could be the problem. We did do it for two months last summer. Volunteered at Topsail Hill State Park in Florida. Loved it....
A little about us:  We retired early and left the cold of Massachusetts in 2000.
Moved to Florida where we bought a house. In 2003 rented out the house and moved to Texas to help out  daughter with babysitting her children.
The market in Florida is not good now so would not consider selling the house now, which means cannot afford to upgrade and would have to use the tt.  I have been really interested in reading the monthly budget reports by Harold.
I just took a part time job at a nearby golf club in the grill. I figured I would try to pay off some debt and also gain the kitchen experience that could help with a workcamp job in the future.

There are couples full-timing in small trailers, tent trailers, truck campers and camper vans (Class Bs) and loving it. Many feel a need for larger, including us, but smaller works for many. Smaller means more campsite choice and hopefully lower fuel costs.
I remember one couple in a Casita trailer (small!!) who felt that if they could handle that they could handle going overseas and using a small trailer or motorhome for months and being comfortable. I heard they ended up spending months in a motorhome in Australia and New Zealand they bought in Australia used and liked that so much they did it again in South Africa.
There are also solos who can't live in less than 35' and a solo friend is upgrading to a 43' diesel pusher.

See there RV Dude all it took was for me to invite myself over to this lovely couples home and bingo.....they sign up for the Rally. John and Bridget know cool people when they read them on this forum. Hamburgers will be fine nothing special....maybe some drinks and chips while we visit......

Really....I know Howard is about to have an attack.....I think it is great that you two are coming to the Rally and we all will have some fun and make some memories that will last a lifetime....

You should have fun at the Rally, wish we could be there but we'll be workamping in the Adirondacks. This past week I had the opportunity to look at a Landmark fifthwheel by Heartland and I was impressed. This is a well built RV and priced less than Mobile Suites (which is an excellent choice as well). If we were in the market for a new RV this one would be on our short list. Just thought I would pass that on. By the way, there is another one I would like to see - an Americana. They sell direct and each one is custom built for fulltiming but having never seen one I can't speak for their quality. They are built by Forest River which builds our Cedar Creek as well as Cardinals which should be good quality.

Hi John and Bridget,
As you have found out there's a lot of good advise on this form and a lot of good people willing to help out. We are into our seventh month of full timing in a 32 ft, gas motor home that we affectionately call the Dough-Boy. If and when we up grade it would be to a 36 ft. and no more because as Bill Joyce said more campsite choices. Their are a lot of folk's doing the lifestyle in small TT and MH's it's all in the way you need to be comfortable.
