Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Today I decided to drive my MDT to the office and take a couple of co-workers to lunch. While stopped at a light I looked back in my mirror and saw a guy on a motorcycle about 3 cars back, looking at me and shaking his head. I looked back a second time and he was still shaking his head at me. When the signal turned green he pulled up beside me honked his horn and started shaking his head again and then darted in front of my truck and drove away still shaking his head....
I know I didn't cut him off since I was the first vehicle to pull up to the stop and there was no one behind me for quite some distance. Cars eventually caught up to my stopped truck and that's when I looked back and spotted him.
Only thing I could figure....he's an enviromentalist and was trying to say to me, Here he is trying to save the environment by riding a motorcycle and I'm wasting the environment by driving a vehicle that's about 10 times bigger than his...and gets 4 times less gas mileage...
--- What do you think he was trying to say ?

I think you're probably correct in your supposition....he forgot to take his dose of "live and let live" that day....or maybe he's just a little jealous also???!!!! 'Cause he knows his cycle can't pull a 5er...or something that would let him experience the fun of RVing. Who know what he's thinking, but you're the one paying for your fuel, so I wouldn't loose much sleep over it! Just enjoy every day you get to be behind the wheel! Hugs! Molly
Bear, did you know, on an average people living our lifestyle use less energy than those that live in the styx and brix. We conserve more water and electric everyday while people in houses waste soooo much energy and then they have the audacity to shake their heads at us when they drive by. Let him shake his head....if we are lucky it will fall off the next time.
One time while driving on US A1A near Flagler Beach, FL. a guy walking on the sidewalk gave us the "one finger salute". I have no idea why, I guess he just got up on the wrong side of the bed that morning.
Many people just see a "fuel guzzler" when they see large RVs, and don't understand how energy efficient our homes really are.
Don't let them bother you. Someday they'll see the light.

Most likely he was saying; "Look at me - I'm an idoit looking for a village!" It certainly takes all kinds and I've learned to ignore them. I don't need their approval, or disapproval for that matter, so it's "away with you!" for judgemental kind of people.

I know what I would be thinking if that was me because everytime I see an RV going down the road, I think "I can't wait until we retire!!! That will be us!"

Life may not be the the Party we hoped for, but while we're here we should Dance!
Was he shaking his head in "morse code", other than that there is no message. If he can't talk he wasn't saying a thing. The message I get is "WHO CARES" Have a good day and enjoy you MDT.
Who knows what other people think? Certainly not me. I do know that we shouldn't be overly concerned about what other people think. They know essentially nothing about us as individuals and therefore any judgment they may make of us is a worthless thing. He didn't even know whether the truck you were driving was yours! As far as he knew you might have been taking it to a salvage yard to have it destroyed. His judgment, whatever it was, was made out of ignorance and as such shouldn't concern you one bit!!!
Just my opinion!

It's funny, most people are impressed when they see our RV's. In fact you can sense a little jealousy from them, wishing they could enjoy the great outdoors like we RVers do.
I've come to terms with the motorcyclist's actions and realized he was just saying to himself.... "I could have had an MDT instead of this stupid motorcycle !"

Sppedhitch, thanks so much for your information. I have long suspected that this was the case, that RVers use less energy. All of the nay-sayers we deal with always want to say something about the gas/energy we will be using to convince us our dream isn't practical. : )
Next time you get asked about RV and (not)green ask back
How many square feet do YOU heat/cool How much fertilizer do YOU buy How much water do YOU use How much stuff do YOU buy becuase YOU have the room for it How many miles do YOU drive keeping up with all YOUR stuff
You won't get much past a couple of these before the light bulbs go off and the mouth shuts up....
This time a Jeep Waggoneer passed me on the left and I just happened to look down and saw the lady (I'll use the term loosely) flip me the bird.
I know I didn't do anything to cause her to be upset like cut them off, going too slow or tailgate or ???.
So I have to assume she was making a comment about my environmental impact.
I'm guessing my MDT gets about the same fuel mileage as the Waggoneer so the "people who live in glass houses" saying applies.
I read another blog aimed at owners of trucks like mine and just about everyone has had several of these types of non-verbal communications indicating another driver's concern over our environmental impact.
I wonder if I sat down and calculated out the true environmental impact cost of my truck, fuel and replacement at 500,000 miles (about 12 years) versus a Prius that will be replaced every 3-5 years..... who would win the environmental impact question ?

You would Bear, but you will never convince the enviros of that . They want us to all drive their " Green Cars".I care about the environment as much as any one(Thats why I drive a Dodge Truck that is already emmissions compliant for 2010)They all talk about Carbon Footprint and I would bet that RVers actually have a smaller footprint. I do not let these people bother me at all,I just smile and wave at them.Life is to short to let petty people like that affect my day.

RVing probably not a reality any more.It was a good time while it lasted.
As we are traveling at the present time, we get the same ever ending question, what's the fuel milage of your Motor Home? So I started to say 18 to 22 in hill country and 28 to 30 on the level, sort of shut them up for the time and I would smile and walk away. At lot of times BS is the best answer.
What a great way to answer the mileage question.... The digital readout shows I get 99.9 MPG going downhill or while coasting to a stop. I should take a picture so I can show them proof of mileage claim....
