Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
This is a general question.. I guess i could have written on the used rv section but oh well!! here goes.. We will eventually get a used less then three year old RV. How do you know if the plumbing, or electrical is in working condition without electric hookup or water hookups. How can we test the rv for these things. I can understand where some private residance where RV's are being sold would not have that available..
I would not buy any RV that I could not verify that all of the systems worked! If the seller is really serious and honest, he can make arrangements to take the RV to a CG or somewhere where everything can be hooked up and tested by you. Either that, or the RV should taken to a mechanic that can check everything out for you.
RVs are very complex pieces of machinery, and there are many things that can go wrong, and it can cost many $$ to fix them. It doesn't matter if you're buying from a private party or a dealer, everything must be checked out before the purchase.

The best money you can spend is to have a certified RV Tech check the motorhome front to back. It will give you a good handle on the real condition of the systems. Here in Jacksonville, you should be able to get that done. Are you dealing with a dealer? Individual? What service records do they have?
Lacking all of that, is there someone you know in JAX that is very experienced with MHs? Get their opinion. We just got back to JAX from a 5.5 month trip on our coach. Trust me, the least fun you can have is a problem on the road.
PM me if I can help.

I agree, you should test every system in your RV before purchasing. If you are buying from a dealership that should be no problem. They have hookups that can be used and everything tested. Tell your salesman what you want. If you are buying from a private person you can still find a place to take the RV and hookup and test the systems. I believe this should be the responsibility of the seller. If you are looking at a motorhome I would invest the money and have a tech do a PDI inspection before a purchase is made. You might have to pay for it but it would be well worth the investment for a piece of mind. When a person buys a sticks and bricks an inspection is always done to test the house systems. This is no different. Good luck.
We will be buying a fifth wheel but never the less i will have all the kinks checked out.. hopefully from a private owner, haven't sold the house yet so not sure what we will get but i do know a fifth wheel.. thanks
