Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Greetings from CA!

For some time now, we have been planning to take the Fulltime RV plunge after my husband's retirement.  We are a little disappointed that we are not yet ready to go, but we are hoping to speed things up a little now that my job ended...just last week... and John's retirement date is in just a couple of weeks!  We're a little anxious about all the decisions that still need to made and, at the same time, we're very excited that we're getting so close!

After much discussion and thought, we have a truck picked out be we're still deciding on some of the options.  We're also still trying to make a decision on a 5th wheel floorplan and options.

We have two daughters and three grandchildren in the midwest (Ohio and Louisville), and another two daughters and two grandchildren in CA.  One of our main objectives will be to spend quality time with our family.  Another will be to enjoy our country's (or continent's) natural wonders along the way.

I was very pleased recently to find this inspiring and friendly website.   I don't want to be just a lurker!   I will be looking forward to gleaning all the information I can here, as well as sharing the good vibes!

Ginger

Welcome from another new member. I just had to say hi, since I'm originally from the Louisville Area (Southern Indiana, the Sunny Side smile) but was based in Florida the last 7 years.

You'll find tons of good advice and lots of friendly people!

The one piece of advice I have based on your post is don't buy that truck yet! First, get your fiver picked out, then you'll know for sure how much truck you need to pull it.

If you buy the truck first, you may find you need more or less truck than you bought by the time you get done selecting your fifth wheel. If you buy less truck than you need, you're in for tough or uncomfortable travels, and more truck means more invested, more depreciation and insurance, and more fuel to cover the same adventures.

Thank you for the welcome!

Maybe I should have explained that the truck we have picked out is a Ford F-450.  We have our fifth wheel narrowed down to just a few models, and the truck will be fine with any of the 5ers we are choosing from.  smile

Ginger and John,

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you have a plan.

You're right in stating that this a very friendly web site, and if you have questions, be sure to ask.  Someone is sure to have an answer.smile

Welcome Jon & Ginger,  (to Jim)(we understand that Jon does not need an "H"..  LOL)
Good to have new fulltimers on the site.  Lots of information here and at the same time you can share your experiences.  Good luck in finding that 5er, when you see the one you like you will know it.  Seems that you have a truck that will tow a wide range.  Don't forget pulling is not the problem, Stopping is.
Have safe and happy travels

Welcome to the forum, lots of good people and info here.
Suggesting you get the truck first and the F450 sounds like a good choice.  We pull with a F-550 our fiver is a Doubletree elite suites, 36TK3.  Best of wishes for the road.
