Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

wintering in florida panhandle

Hello Everyone

We are looking for information from someone who has spent the winter in the florida panhandle area along with some campground recommendations. Any suggestions would be appreciated as this will be our first winter as fulltimer's.

Thanks

Here's a couple in the Gulf Shore region of Alabama, just a stones throw from Florida's panhandle.  Rainbow Plantation in Summerdale is an Escapees park that was designed by RVers for RVers.  They have nice sites and lots of activities going on through the winter months.  Also, the Gulf Shores State Park is a nice campground that is right on the Gulf.  Both have very reasonable rates.  You can check out Norm and Linda Payne's website at http://www.seeya-downtheroad.  Norm has a campground section and they have stayed in several parks in northern Florida.  We will be staying several weeks and/or months at Rainbow Plantation with winter.  Hope this helps and maybe we will bump into you as we are Wandering America.

We have not begun to RV yet, but we are very familiar with the weather there.  Robyn is from Jacksonville, and I went to undergraduate school at FSU in Tallahassee. Make sure you are prepared for freezing weather (holding tanks, water lines, etc.). It usually doesn't last very long, but it happens fairly frequently overnight. The only way to avoid it is to go all the way to south Florida, where winter is the peak tourist season ($$$). Lots of snowbirds in South Florida where I grew up...

How true!  We live in Naples and rarely have to worry about cold weather.  We may have to turn the furnace on a few mornings in Jan-Mar to take the chill off.  Other than that it's great except for the high prices and grid lock traffic!biggrin

Seriously, I could think of no better place to be warm in winter than southwest Florida.  We complain about the "snowbirds", but really welcome them and their money!!   Even when we go full-time, we plan to spend the winter months here.

You really have to be south of Tampa-Orlando to avoid most of winter's blast of cold weather and the further south the better!

Come on down and enjoy southwest Florida!
