Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Slow Cookers

A couple years ago I succumbed to marketing pressures and bought my DW a new slow cooker.  That was mistake #1.  Mistake #2 was selling the old crock potcooker that worked very, very well.

Mistake #3 was replacing the second (read lousy) slow cooker with a high tech looking unit from Cuisinart that immediately burned the first batch of chili.  We have since had it repaired by a factory upgrade, but it still is way too hot.

So here is the question.  What is the brand name of the best crock pot?  Even if it is 20 years old, 'cause I'm gonna be looking for an old crock pot at garage sales.  Some old things are way better than new stuff.  That goes for husbands, too!!!

Life is a journey.  But life in an RV is not only a journey, but fun as well.

My all-time favorites have always been Rival...and MUST get the removable crock. Easier washing as well as prep & refrigerate.

There was some talk a while back about thermal cookers under the Kitchen 'Must Haves' in the RV Cooking section of the forum. They sound pretty cool... They are also pretty pricey... but no danger of burning anything because they never get hotter than boiling...

I agree with Froggi.  I have a Rival crockpot and love it.  It is oval shaped and has a removable crock.  It also has four settings: 4 hours, 6 hours, 8 hours and 10 hours.

I got mine at SAM'S.

But whatever crockpot you get, don't forget the fantastic Crockpot Liners!  No more having to mess with cleaning a messy crock.  You just cook and toss away!
You will love them!biggrin

Believe it or not I still use the OLD OLD Rival Crockpot that is one unit. I really do not mind washing it and being careful not to immerse the bottom. In fact, I have a pork roast in it today waiting until we get home for dinner.

We have a small crockpot in the Fiver we use for weekend trips. Just not the same. Will probably take our old buddy along when we fulltime. I am sure it will still be just as good as ever.

We just happened to stumble across a little crock pot in a CVS Pharmacy last fall. It has the removable crock and the wife says she loves it. It's just the right size to make a meal for the 2 of us, and only takes about 1/3 the room of the big ones.

I can't remember if they were on sale or not, but I think we only paid about $10 for it.

I picked one of those on sale after Xmas myself (in 2005), just for the RV. Haven't used it but glad to hear it works well!

Where do you find the liners? I don't recall ever seeing them before...

I agree that the old crock pots worked much better than more recent ones.  Someone mentioned that perhaps the new ones are hotter because of an overly conservative concern of food poisoning.  (Still wish I had my old one.)

You'll find the liners at any usual procery store (Safeway, King Soupers, Albertsons, etc.) in the aisle with foil and plastic wrap.  - great for clean-up.

biggrin.gifThanks for the crock pot liner idea!  I have never used those before and will get some today at the store.  I hate cleaning the crock pot after using it.  Super!
Thanks,
Gerri
