Hello all I am a father of 4 of elementary school age kids and with my awesome wife. We have thought for a while and are at the point we are thinking of selling everything and doing 6monthts to a year of RVing as we then move into a home from a current one. Is this crazy? Given we where both scouters and camping and that lifestyle has been a big part of our life. Try living in a tent for 3 months now there's som fun lol. But we are thinking of making this an amazing adventure or am I crazy. I feel we have a good idea on finances for us it's actually way less budget wise we pay 460 in energy and 1226 in house payment alone. When we sell our house we would have cash for a Trailer and would have to upgrade the auto for a better hauler. I am reading a lot but I am at the point for some thoughts is this going to be and adventure for our kids please note I feel like a have a good grasp on camping and that life it's all we have done and our kids are not your let's watch tv all day they are let's lay in a boat catch fish and cook them up. So thoughts ideas to read for the next step?

Everybody is different, but we have a 41 foot, 5 slide, 5th wheel and it's perfect for two people, add 4 kids to the mix and it wouldn't work for us. 400 sq ft is tight for 6 people. This is just MO.

What are you going to do for health care for the family? Home schooling - through what state? A trailer for 6 people is really going to need a good truck to pull it.

Of course, I haven't had the RV experience of most people here, but if you think you and your family would work in relatively close quarters for a year or so, I'd say go for it. I've seen some 5er floor plans with 2 bunk rooms at the back. That would be perfect for your kids.
I assume you mean traveling for that time, not just moving into it and staying in your current community.
"tent for 3 months" . . . . you did that? If you're still sane and functional, I'd say you wouldn't have any problems. But you'd need to have everyone cut back on their "stuff" as a trailer/5er wouldn't have nearly the closet space you're used to.
I hope you'll let us know what you decide, and then check back in about how you're doing.

What about your children's education?

Just do it... You can always step back and say it's not for your family rather than looking back and wishing you had... Your children are young and this is the foundation time for them...if it doesn't work? They're going to pull positives and negatives from this time in their lives...one may hate it and two may go on to be nature guru's the other a lovely mix... don't rob you and or awesome wife of and awesome urge!

Hello, my husband and I are full timers, we started three years ago with a 5 th wheel, but this last spring we traded for a motorhome, a 2012 Pheaton, 42', we love traveling this way, but now we're having a few technical problems with it and not sure what to do, or what the problem is?

What is... crazy? To some, what you have done so far is crazy. To some, a sense of adventure is crazy. To others, sitting around a house is crazy. Just sayin', you get to define what you think is crazy or not. It's my sense that most on here will urge to take the plunge. Adventure seeking seems to be a characteristic of RVers. The beauty of the decision you are dealing with is that it's not permanent unless you you decide it to be so. If you find you wish to take a different path... just go. Life will provide you with consequences and joys whatever way or path you take, goes with the territory. My only advice is whatever decision you make, OWN IT!... until such time as you no longer feel satisfied by it. Then change it. That's the great part of living... you choose. There are many great axioms about living life to the fullest... "I did it my way..." "... the only thing we have to fear, is fear itself..." you get the idea. Knowledge is power, it conquers fear.
Doing brings memories, not doing brings regrets... it's all perspective. You have a blank canvas in front of you with a full pallet of paint.... make it a masterpiece, from your post it sounds to me like you already have a couple of key ingredients... curiousity and a vision.
