Has anyone tried an alternative to string for re-stringing day/night shades? May sound stupid but, things like fishing line, picture hanging wire, etc. I'm just so tied of re-stringing blinds and I don't want to switch to a different type because I like the day/night usefulness.

Fishing line did not last any longer when we tried it and it was rated for very large fish.

Thanks Bill for the reply. We'll see if there are any more ideas out there.

One thing we do is to travel with the blinds pulled up. The blinds are 22 years old and haven't had a string break. With the blinds pulled up it stops the possibility of sawing action on the strings.

No help if your wife does Zumba on the Wii and aerobics workouts to DVDs.

They must have used something back then that is far surperior to what they use now! I've resorted to buying 300 foot rolls from fixmyblinds.com.
