We are getting ready to leave Florida and head to Las Vegas. Our plan is to take the southern route across the country to hopefully avoid snowy roads. A question of uncertainty is our approach to Las Vegas from the east. I have read that the new Hoover Dam bypass opened in October. We are considering making this our route into Las Vegas from the east. The old road was narrow and rife with traffic problems.
Has anyone driven across the new bridge? How was the road on either side? Any suggestions from an alternate approach?
Thanks!

The new bridge is quite easy and the road is better than before with many sections now four lane. We took it in November with some sections still under construction, but it was still a good route. Nothing has changed closer to Henderson and Las Vegas, you still slow down and deal with city traffic on a two lane road.

Thanks Bill, this is indeed good news. It is nice to have confirmation of what the official websites has posted. We will use the new route, but not sure there is much one can do about the chaos of the Las Vegas area traffic.

Hi, Drove over that route last week and back again, for the first time since it opened. All evidence of the construction is gone, and the approach immediately before the bridge on the AZ side is vastly improved from the Old. The Nevada side, while bypassing the old Dam area, still dumps you out in Boulder City, with the traffic lights, etc. Not perfect, but a lot better.

Thanks!
