I have been reading alot of the topics discussed here and I must say, you all are a very friendly group. That is refreshing! My husband and I have made the disision to sell our home and become full timers after my baby( he is 18) graduates in june 2011. I have many mixed emotions about this. I will miss our home. But mostly, I will miss my family. Our situation is a little differant than most. We are both on social security and live on a very tight budget. Im nervous about making this work. We have a 5th wheel and a used truck. we have a large dog (maggie) who we take every where. Will we fit in?

I think you'll find that there are others on this forum that are also living on a very tight budget. It can be done if you pick your campsites carefully and limit how much you travel.
Feel free to ask questions as they come up. As you've noted, there's a lot of friendly folks here and I'm sure someone will be able to help.
Have you considered going to the RV Dreams Rally in April? There will be a lot of great seminars and I think you'd get most of your questions answered.

Besides the forum and Howard's journal, check out the "Site Map" area of the website. Howard has provided a lot of information there, including budgeting.

You have a fifth wheel and a truck so you fit right in with the rest of us fifth wheel people. Almost everyone in the campground is a part of the great dog conspiricy (ask my cats they'll explain about the GDC). So you'll fit in there. No one has all the money they might want (sure some peoples budgets are bigger but still) so again you fit right in.
The only thing to worry about is are you heading for FLorida, Texas or Arizona for the winter?

Welcome! There are many ways to make it work...first is to work on a budget to determine what you feel you can afford to spend on campgrounds and fuel, the two things you can control.
Consider boondocking if you have a generator or solar, free parking is always good! Look at ways to reduce your costs by parking weekly/monthly and by joining groups like Passport America.
The biggest unknown are repairs...if you are handy, that helps a lot. If not, keep the preventative maintenance up as much as you can.
As already said, ask lots of questions and then get out there and ENJOY!

We found this site a couple of years ago (or three maybe) and have made a lot of friends here and gotten to meet many in person. Hope you find that to be true too.
This site has been and continues to be a wealth of information. There is a lot of info on expenses and budgets and I hope you will find it useful. I think there are a lot of people on a budget with a fixed income here, so hopefully you can get all your questions answered.
