If I get a cradlepoint I do not need to use the smartview software which runs my aircard? Is this correct?

I assume you are talking about SmartView for your Sprint service.
If so, you are correct that you don't need to run that software if you are plugging your air card directly into the Cradlepoint cellular router.
The same goes for Verizon VZ Access Manager. If plugging an air card or "phone as modem" directly into the Cradlepoint, VZ Access Manager does not need to run.

We have the Cradlepoint and a Sprint air card and did not have to use any software updates. The connection icon appears on the computers, and you can name it and set a password so others don't pirate your personal WiFi hotspot.
It works very well, the only con I have in areas where there is a weaker signal (less bars) it sometimes takes a little longer to upload a photo.
As usual, Howard was spot on with his advice.

I have just order the Cradlepoint, MBR900 to use with my Verizon USM720 air card. It will be interesting to see how that works out. I have conversed with Mat, from 3Gstore, via this forum so I intend to visit with him a lot more once I receive the router.

One curious thing we have run into with our MBR1000 Cradlepoint is that when we insert our Verizon aircard into it we end up with stronger service in both Toshibas than if we used the aircard in one of the computers.
Not sure why this occurs, but we will take it.

Hello,
That is correct, you only need that software to complete the activation of your Sprint device. After your card has been activated you simply plug it into the router and it automatically establishes the connection for you!

2.) Cradlepoint routers have less electrical interference to prohibit and interfere with the cellular signal
3.) A dedicated device ensures that you're getting full power to your modem. Sometimes if you have a lot of devices plug into USB ports you might not get fully power directly from the computer
