Three and a half years ago, a seed was planted that has since taken root, sprouted and is on its way to becoming a beautiful tree. I have been lurking around this forum and the RV-Dreams website since. DW and I meet Howard and Linda in January 2008 and have to say that we’ve never meet a couple who were more honest, sincere and open. They are the real deal.
Our plan has us going live early in 2012. Our story is posted on www.waggintails.blogpsot.com. We are in the process of downsizing our life and have plans to home base in Burton, Texas just south of Lake Sommerville.
My day job has taken me from 9 years of military service, 7 years in electronics, 13 years in engineering and 14 years in corporate education.
My modus operandi is to make a difference in others (Mr. Holland’s Opus). I dream of giving back to others by using my God given skills and talents.
DW (Carol) has been my only partner and best friend for the past 43 years. She and I along with our standard poodle Qianna will be traveling the highways and mostly byways of this great place we call the USA. She professional dog trainer who loves quilting and other crafts.
Looking forward to meeting you in the near future while relaxing by the campfire. If you travel through or near Corpus Chrsiti, TX drop me a private message here. We would love to meet you.

Jerry,
Two questions: 1.) Will you live in your RV while in Texas to "home base" or will you live in a stix n brix? And, why did you decide to either live in your RV vs. a stix n brix while not on the road? 2.) Why Burton, TX? Although we've camped/rved much of our life, we'll be on the road much more once I retire in about 3-4 years. Texas has many advantages for "home basing" there, whether it's in an RV or Stix n Brix.

Jake, My brother has 25 acres in Burton. We will have a pad there so our plan is to live in the RV. If while there we want a change, I'm sure we can bunk out in his house for a few nights. He and I will be building a workshop there also so while we are at home base, I will have a place to tinker and stay out of trouble. Also the workshop is an answer on what to do with the woodshop I have in my home in Corpus Christi.
Also, our retirement fund does not permit us to have RV and s&b at the same time. So, home is where we park it. We've grown up in Texas, lived in other states but always considered Texas our home.
Hope to see you on the road some day.
Jerry/Carol

We hope to be on the road sometime late summer or fall next year. Still have a lot to dispose of including the house. Sure wish I had a place to move my woodworking shop to. I've been trying to talk my son into build a shop on his place but don't think that would happen in time for us to hit the road.

Thanks Jerry,
Within the next few years, we hope to call Texas our home-base as well and register our Rig there. We still have not decided on the stix n' brix yet, we simply know we'll travel for the first year after retirement (56 for me) and then see what plans the Lord has for us. Stay healthy :)

Now that's my idea of a win-win situation. I'm talking about full-timing in the RV but still having a workshop to tinker in. Looks like you're the one in both wins there. Congrats! Sounds like a great plan. Have fun.
Now to go check out your website......

One Step Closer
We are now one step closer to Going Live in 2012. My DW (Carol) and I have agreed that her retirement needs to commence shortly. She officially leaves the world of the gainfully employed to the world of retirement on Dec 30, 2010. So instead of working outside the home for someone else, she gets to work inside the home on the process of downsizing from S/B to RV.

Hey Jerry!
Great news about Carol's retirement date.
I suppose the idea of full-timing in two RVs had gone by the wayside. Inside joke, sorry.
P.S. Thanks so much for the very kind words at the beginning of this thread.

Thanks for the comments. DW (Carol) will not be resting too much in retirement. We have lots of stuff that needs to find new homes. By the time we hit the road, she will be a seasoned craigs list seller. Hopefully I can find the time for some house repair work between my day job and evening adjunct teaching job.
We'll keep you posted on the progress.
