It looks like I'm going to be heading to my relative's house in Bullhead City, AZ for Thanksgiving.
I have a question - I absolutely love to travel - you'll see that, if you take a look at my blog - and I haven't seen much of Arizona, so I thought I might fly into Phoenix, rent a car and drive to Bullhead City, then head someplace else for one or two nights to do some sightseeing.
Can you recommend a place within maybe 4 hours' driving distance of Phoenix, that would be interesting to visit? Or do you think I should stay in Phoenix itself? I wish I had more time, but I just started a new job and can't take additional vacation days.
I really appreciate it - thanks much, Roberta

Sedona is nice. And not that far from Phoenix. Very pretty with lots of local artists.

Roberta, If you haven't been to Oatman it is fun. Think it is about 30 miles from Bullhead City. Burros along the road begging for snacks, staged gunfights, old west mining town, lots of little shops. Worth the time if you like that kind of thing. We did.

Sedona is beautiful and just a few hours north. Near Phoenix, on the east side, is Usery regional park. This is a beautiful underutilized park with lots of hiking paths if you'd like to get out and do some hiking. The interpretive ranger program there is great - lots of good programs including guided day and evening hikes.

We are near Sedona right now at the Thousand Trails park in Cottonwood.
Sedona is a must see if you are in the area. We just did a train ride up into Verde Canyon and it also was a must see.

We did the Grand Canyon train trip a few years back it was a great adventure, inexpensive so it was a great value. AAA has packaged deals for the trips.
Visit a movie studio where a lot of westerns old and recent have been filmed. http://www.oldtucson.com/
These are at the other end of AZ from Boulder City but each are a good 2 or 3 day round trip destination.
There is an area called Swansea towards Parker, AZ that was a mining camp. The roads are a little rough getting to it. Some of the brick buildings still stand and usually there is a herd of wild horses and burros in the area. It's a good offroad adventure if you happen to rent an SUV or jeep. http://www.ghosttowngallery.com/htme/swansea.htm

If you go to Sedona drive out Oak Creek Canyon to Slide Rock. When in Phoenix drive to Cave Creek and have ribs at the Horney Toad. Take to road up to Payson past Rosevelt Lake. Lots to see and do within two hours of Phoenix.
