What resource do you use to locate campsites when you are on the road? We are heading out in a couple of weeks, and plan to go, then when time/fatigue dictates look at what campsites are coming up and then see if we can get a reservation (and boondock if not).

What are your favorites?

We use Trailer Life as a general guide, but rely mostly on the reviews in RV Park Reviews. They are current, not reflective of advertising and are from real time users. A good way to find some off the grid opportunities is to simply Google "campgrounds near Alexandria, VA" for instance. Good luck,

Trailer Life is our main resource. We also look for SKP (Escapees) parks as most allow drycamping for $5/night. I would not have a problem with Flying-J for a quick overnight stay but so far the timing hasn't worked out for us. Rest areas are not ok for us, at least for catching some sleep. They are usually in a remote location with no security. Someone up to no good could hit you and be gone in a minute. We never feel safe in a rest area. And we don't do Walmart...the more I read about them the less I want to stay/shop with them. Some allow campers and some don't (and the number who don't is gradually climbing). Others allow campers, but the local ordinances prohibit sleeping in your vehicle so you get the knock on the door in the middle of the night telling you to move along.
