I am looking for 5 to 20 acres in the mountains of New Mexico, I want a place where I can spend time fly fishing and build my dream home.

Hi-native New Mexican here!
There is quite a bit of land in this big state, but water is a pretty hot commodity here in the desert. Your best bet for both mountains + fly fishing spot will be northern New Mexico . Many spots have become pretty expensive, but try Pecos-it's a TINY little village, but beautiful and good fishing. Kind of a well kept secret (but the secret is getting out-many from Santa Fe are starting to gobble it up). Let me know if I can help.
Good luck-and Via con Dios!!!

FYI. When you are talking mountains in New Mexico you are also talking snow in the winter. Sometimes lots of snow. Even here at 5900' last winter we had many snow falls but they didn't last long. Last winter was screwy everywhere.

True, but it isn't "have to dig your car out" snow. And it rarely lasts...
