My name is Jenny and I'm sure I'll also be posting on behalf of my DH Jason from time to time. We are in our 41 and 40 (not telling whose older ) and have 4 great kids, 2 Austrailian shephards, 1 mini Dachshund, and 1 grandson.
I'm currently working 50 plus hours each week for a food broker managing a group of sales reps. Jason is an in-house IT Manager working about the same hours. Over the last few years we've discovered that working hard to get that so called "right" house, "right job, or "right" lifestyle is so very WRONG for us. We recently bought our first home because we thought if only we had a bigger, better house for our kids then our life would be perfect...boy were we mistaken! The joy of the purchase lasted about a week and we still can't get over this sinking feeling that something is missing in our lives. Instead of feeling elated we felt a bit trapped in a lifestyle that we weren't real sure we wanted in the first place.
We are just in the early stages of discovering what we would like to be when we grow up and we are quite certain that when our youngest child of 14 graduates from high school we are definately making a change. I would say that we are at the stage that Howard describes after he and Linda return from their Alaska trip (although our trip was to Northwest MN) and each time we take a vacation, the more depressed we get when we have to go back to work. I'm thoroughly enjoying reading about their journey and how they got from there to here. Some of what he describes sends chills down my spine because I've had many of those same thoughts myself.
We are currently in our "ducks in a row stage" such as paying off debt, growing our savings account, making some investments, etc and we have a good 4 years before we would be able to take off.
Anyway, I just wanted to say "hello" and tell you all that this is one of the greatest forums I've come across on the web. I'm already addicted to the entire website and I'm sure I'll have many questions as time goes on. I don't know that I would classify us as wannabe's just yet but the more I read about how much everyone enjoys it, (mishaps and all) the more I can picture us living the lifestyle.

Wow!!! You arrived at the same point my DW and I reached. Only thing is, we waited till we were darn near 70 to do it. Wish I had had the sense you display, when I was just a kid of 40. I sure would have been happier (I think)
