hello rvs. we first started out with a class A ,then traded for a 26ft fifth wheel. 4wks ago we were t-boned and totaled both the truck and 5th wheel. that shattered our plans for this fall. we were planning a trip from Ia (home) out west . now we are thinking that maybe a popup trailed just to sl;eep in would be the way to go. we've never camped in anything that small but were thinking it might work . Anyone ever used a popup trailerfor long didtant traveling? thinking we would be gone 3-4 wks

My husband & I rented a pop up before we got our own RV. We went for a couple of weeks to the Grand Canyon & Lake Powell. I have to admit I hated the pop up. We had bad weather & dealing with the set up & take down was a real pain. It was fairly cramped as well. I do know lots of people who own pop ups & really like them, but for me, it just didn't work.

It really depends on your own personal likes and needs. We used to take two-week vacations with a pop-up every year when I was a kid. My family had a blast. I have even taken vacations like that (two weeks or more) with just a tent. If you are concerned about being too tight, but don't mind dealing with the canvas (like you'd have to deal with in a pop-up anyway), a hybrid is a great option. Still better on fuel savin gs than a 5th wheel, but a bit more set-up and take down.
Anyway, it's really dependent on what you can handle yourself. Everybody has their own capabilities and needs, and possibly even age for that matter.
10 years ago I could have easily handled long trips with a pop-up. Now, not so much :)
