Our boss happened to stop in yesterday, hoping to catch our relief manager; he had forgotten that we would be working. Tues/Weds are our usual days off.
We three were talking and we told him our plans. He knew full-timing was our long-range goal and he said the only thing we'd get from him was a bit of envy! We feel better having him know this far in advance so he can line up someone to replace us without being pressured. Besides, we like the guy personally and wanted to tell him!
In talking about our plans with him, we started kicking around an idea to have a position created in which we would be traveling relief managers. Say if a property is in between resident managers, vacation relief was needed or a new facility did not have managers hired...we could step in and cover.
It would be a win/win situation for everyone. The company would get (even though I do say so myself) great managers who are already trained and could step in, hit the ground running. For us, it would give us some gigs lined up for the fall/winter and ta-daa! a free storage unit.
Although prepared to sell everything, we could then keep our nice bedroom suite, recliners and possibly sofa and coffee table. That way if we did come off the road we would have the basics.
Hey, he even wants to buy our pool table and says we can keep it right until we leave! I had kiddingly told Dave a while back that I could see us on the last night in a house empty of everything but the pool table and us playing snooker one last time.
Again, it was just brainstorming but the boss seemed keen on the idea. Of course, he has a boss...the owner of the company...so nothing may develop. Sure would be good, though.

That would be nice, wouldn't it!
Hopefully the Big Boss will go for it. It would be a great opportunity for folks who have experience in the self storage field who don't want to be tethered to a place long term.

Definitely sounds like a win-win situation to me :)
