We just put our house on the market two weeks ago, only had one looker that we know of. Its a buyers market we will just have to be patient. Regardless if the house sells or not we have a 3 month trip to Alaska comming in June. We are going to pull our TT up there. If the house sells we will update to a 5ver when we get back.
Like most I have looked at several sites. RV Dreams is the most complete one for information that I've found. Thank you Howard & Linda for you hard work and dedication to the fulltime community. And a big thanks to all the veteran fulltimers for your input and advice.
Winsto Churchill and Lady Astor.
Lady Astor to Churchill: If you were my husband I would put poison in your drink.
Churchills reply: If you were my wife I would drink it.
Probably not suited for fulltimeing.

Welcome to the forum.
We did a 3 month trip to Alaska back in 2002 and it was great. Good luck in selling your house.

We went to Alaska on a cruise and land tour back in 2005 and loved it. However, we all decided that as good as the cruise was, next time we will just fly into Alaska and either rent a car and stay in hotels and motels, OR, rent an RV up there and drive that around and stay in it instead.
From what I have heard about the roads up that direction, a number of precautions need to be taken if one is pulling their own RV. One that I remember reading was to make sure that one took EXTRA spare tires and wheels.
Before you make that trip, you might want to post more questions about traveling to and around Alaska on the forums and see what others advise.
Good luck and welcome to the forums.
Enjoy the new.

Ron and Sharon, welcome to the forum. I gather you are more compatible than Winston Churchill and Lady Astor or you might want to reconsider your 3 month trip together in a travel trailer. Really I hope you do enjoy your trip. I hear great things from people that have taken it. You are right about this website. Howard and Linda have really done a wonderful job of compiling information for prospective fulltimers. They have been a help to us prior to our becoming fulltimers and we read there Journal daily as well as the forum. Here you will find a RV Dream family of followers that are ready to respond to your questions, offer advise and offer you moral support if you decide to take the leap.
God bless,
Allan and Jeanne

My favorite pair of quips concerning Sir Winston and Lady Astor is as follows:
Lady Astor: Winston, you are drunk!
Winston: And you are ugly! But tomorrow I will be sober!

Most who take spare tires to Alaska bring them back to the lower 48. In the 1980s this was not true, but the roads are much better now. We didn't take a spare and were fine. We know many others who did not take spares and were fine. The only one of the group that tracked each other in 2006 that had flats got them on the highway to Inuvik, Northwest Territories.

Terry,
That information is old and out dated. The roads up, and while there, are as good as down here in the states. You'll run into areas of heavy construction and sections with frost heave, but if you just drive slowly in these area you'll be fine. As Bill said, haul tires up, and you'll bring them back with you.
