Have three boxes of books ready to go to Half-Price Books. Have divided clothes into what definitely goes, what probably goes and then the last bunch to be whittled down closer to jump time. After all, I do have one more blistering Texas summer to get through!
Just put my wedding dress for sale on craigslist. Bought it in Scotland at a vintage shop in Edinburgh. I knew it was "the" dress as soon as I saw it. Felt like a princess wedding my prince when I wore it almost four years ago. I sure won't need it again and have no one to hand it down to, so up it goes on the block!
DH is going through documents, updating/organizing his address book, etc.
Gee, kinda looks like we're serious about this around here!

Sherri is quite the organizer. She put all the stuff she was keeping in blue totes and all the stuff for the garage sale in white totes and told me to put them up. We kept them for about three years...no garage sale ever materialized so all that S T U F F is still in the barn. I will have to say this I am sure glad that we did not sell it because I mixed it up and put the wrong totes in the wrong place. All of her priceless teasures would have gone on the auction block ...and soon there after my head...on the same block! Now we have no idea what is in any of the boxes...does that tell us anything???

LOL Speedy!
I'm a bit of an organizer myself so I totally understand!
That being said, I'm already mentally trying to organize the 5er for full-timing. So far the only thing I'm struggling with is there is not as much storage cabinetry in ours as in some other models. A lot of it is overhead cabinets, which I really don't think will be a good place for books and other stuff.
I'm also wondering about kitchen organization...looking at baskets, racks, things that slide out from the cabinets. Of course, we'll just have to use it a while to get a feel for it and see what works.
My goal for this weekend is to just take delivery of the 5er, transfer our stuff from the TT over, get the TT and truck to the dealer, and explore/have fun our new home! "Hmm...what does this button do? YIKES there goes a slideout!" Teehee! And, of course, have some great campfires! Oh yeah, and get that big boy home w/o running over curbs, getting stuck in parking lots... LOL
Does Sherri hire out for 5er space organization consultation?

For books, I don't know if you have ever checked out the Kindle from Amazon. My husband and I are avid readers when we sold the house we donated over 500 books to Friends of the Library. We realized that carrying books around would not be practical. We both had read about the kindle but weren't sure we would like it, there is just something about holding a book and turning the pages. However we decided to get one and see what we thought, I knew my husband would be the most difficult to convince so we we got his first. Needless to say he loves it, the screen is just like reading a book not a computer and comes with the ability to use a wireless to buy books anywhere there is an AT&T signal (no cost for the wireless). We now have 2 Kindles and have gotten rid of most of our books. It has been one of our solutions to all the stuff. Good luck with all the decisions and organizing.

I have the Kindle for the IPhone, quite a bit smaller screen but still very readable. I don't have a stand alone Kindle but with it being wireless can you down load books form a Library. I know some Libraries are letting customers download books to their computers. Does anyone know if the Kindle will do this?

AFAIK the Kindle gets all it's data from Amazon and only Amazon. I'm looking at the Nook from Barnes&Noble as it is supposed to be able to read multiple formats, i.e. pdf files. The Nook also allows you to "loan" your books to another Nook (for 14 days). Also, the Nook allows you to read books for free when in the B&N store and using their hotspot.

I haven't seen the Nook yet and it does have some pluses. Does it have the "electronic paper" What we like about the Kindle is it is not like looking at a computer screen which is back lit and can be very tiring on the eyes. It is more like looking at actual paper. I think there will be more devices like this coming out. Yes, I have to buy my books from Amazon but that doesn't bother me. If you email pdf files to kindle they will format them for kindle. Itis just one solution to the paper problems for RVers.

Just curious as to how much people are spending on Kindle books per month. I also am an avid reader and usually purchase paperbacks from The Bookrack, which buys and sells used paperbacks. They now have a large collection of hardback books also. The most I spend for a paperback is $4.50 and I then get credit for it when I return it. I probably read 6 or 7 books a month.
Have looked at the Kindle, but wondered about the expense for the books.
Happy reading.

Both Tracy and I have Kindles and we love them. But they can be fairly expensive, depending on which books you download. On average, the prices range anywhere from roughly $4 to $12, with most falling around $10. So if you're reading 7 books a month then it could get pricey.
Another note about Kindles. Yes, you do have to buy books through Amazon but you can share them with anyone else on your account. Because Tracy and I are on one account we can both read the same book, at the same time if desired!
I agree with Janie. I haven't looked at the other products, but the Kindle is very easy to read. I find that I don't really like to read physical books anymore. Another nice feature is the adjustable font size. We both are able to adjust it so that we don't have to wear reading glasses.
Just like most electronics, I'm sure the prices will continue to drop and the features will increase as there is more competition out there. There's no doubt that it's a little more expensive compared to physical books if you borrow or buy used, but I wouldn't give it up.

If you reading books hot off the press then the prices are around $10 but for paperbacks around $4-5. If you look real hard there are actually a lot of free ones. Like Connie, we share a lot of books and are one account. That works well for us.
Another issue when downsizing are all the photos etc. Digitizing is great but takes an enormous amount of time. We have used Scanmyphotos.com and also a lot at home and I' not sure we will get that mountain of paper tackled before we move into the RV. Isn't it interesting all the stuff we have?!

Thanks for the pricing info. I haven't researched the Kindle very much, so didn't realize that paperbacks were available at such a good price. I rarely buy a new hardback, but love browsing at Barnes & Noble and making a reading list of new books, and then waiting for them to be available in paperback, AND then at the used book store.
If I can get paperbacks for $4-$5, I just may need to get a Kindle for Christmas. Wonder if Santa is listening?
