I have been looking at 5er to camp in and got to wondering how many of you live full time in your 5er, TT or MH. My thought is for all the information on this forum that it would be a great way to live frugally while paying off debts and getting the 5er and TV paid off. My question is how do you enjoy being in one place and does it work the way I have envisioned? I don't have a lot of debt. The main thing would be the 5er and TV paid off in 5 years or less.

We are selling our house to my daughter. She and her husband moved in to it in February. We moved into our 2002 Cedar Creek fiver in January. In March we bought a 2009 Montana and are living in it. We are about 8 miles from our previous home. We stay in a very small "campground" of only 6 units. We pay just $350 a month and that INCLUDES our electric and cable.
I retired 9/30. Leonard retires in January. We plan to hit the road around Jan 8.
We do not miss our large house, over two acres and all the work that goes with it. With one exception - Leonard had built a 20x40 work shop only a few years before we moved out. This had been his dream for the 14 previous years we had lived in the house. Fortunately as it is still in the family, come time to change the oil in his truck, etc. he has the use of it.
We have friends next to us who have lived here in their motor home for more than 5 years.
I find when I go over to the house, I wonder why I ever wanted something that big. I loved it at the time but life is always changing.

When the gas prices went through the ceiling Sherri and I decided to move to Dallas Texas and leave our Lake House. We put it up for sale and lived full time in our 5th wheel for the last 3 years before I retired. We too paid little for our site and saved tons on fuel back and forth to work. In that time we weeded out a lot of stuff that we did not need. We also realized that living in our 5th wheel was not all that bad. Worked out real well for us and now we are so glad that it happened that way.

I live full-time in my fiver in Half Moon Bay, CA. I love it. It was a real adjustment at first, especially because I have two parrots and three Chihuahuas living with me, but it's worked out quite well. The best thing about it is that I save over $1,000 a month. I don't have utilities to pay here except for LPG. No gardener, no electric. I pay $955/month for rent of my space. I live next to the ocean and it's gorgeous.
There are a few things I miss - it would be nice to have a little more room, but since I live by myself it's ok. It seemed like everything in the RV fell apart after I made this move, but since I had a good service contract I was able to get things fixed without going broke. There are other "monthlies" in this park who have been here for as long as 17 years. I can understand why.

Ann and I started thinking about fulltiming less than 6 months ago. Since that time we have found and purchased the fifth wheel and TV we plan to start with. We are still two years or so from retirement and fulltiming. A few weeks ago Ann suggested we get the house on the market now. I asked "What if it sells before were ready to hit the road?" to which she replied "I would be perfectly happy living in the fiver at a local RV park". I was pleasantly surprised but could hardly believe what I was hearing. We began to consider it and the more we thought about it the more it made sense. This would allow up to two years to get rid of stuff, sell the house, find out what we do and don't really need in the rv and potentially save a considereable sum of $ on property taxes, utilities, etc. So, just this week we have made the decision to get the house ready to go on the market and start the transition. We are excited about what the future holds.

We sold the house in May and are living in the 5er until retirement. Like Roberta we also find it a lot less $$ to live in the RV vs the sticks and bricks. We are getting debt free and will probably work another 5 years when we can both qualify for our retiree medical benefits thru our employers then we will hit the road.
We have been planning our fulltime adventures for over 3 years now and are working our plan.
