Just putting into substance my dream, my vision....
My dream is to find and acquire (while we are still working as self-storage resident managers) the 5er that will suit us for many years to come as we live in it full-time. Still with steady income and the residence provided in our job, to rig the 5er out for living, getting it set up ready for everyday use, working out the bugs, getting to know it. Although we already have a TT and the basics, there are still mods and stuff to get for a 5er. We already have the TV.
Thinking of the next 12-24 months, this time period would also be one of downsizing and getting rid of much of our "stuff." It would be for researching and arranging other things like health insurance, on-the-road Internet, mail forwarding, digitizing photos, uploading music, etc.
I'd like to use our own recliners in our 5er; they're really comfy and they're ours already!
Ideally, the economy would be better by the time we hit the road. Whether it is or not, what I see us workamping and me additionally doing some sort of telecommuting like medical transcription (been there done that for years) or being a virtual assistant, something in photography, designing Web sites...something on a flexible, perhaps on-call, basis. I see me teaching Reiki (an energy-based method for stress reduction and overall well-being) again...had a good practice going before getting into self-storage. My Reiki work is my heart's passion, what I "should" be doing. Leading community drum circles and perhaps giving lessons. Us working side-by-side as workampers, as we do now, but in the outdoors more. Give me a mower, I'd be happy mowing grass all day! Being able to have enough income to live a simple life, bills paid, food on the table, to get us back to our beloved Scotland and family there every few years for a couple of weeks...you get the idea.
Getting out of the scorching, wilting Texas heat in the summers but basing ourselves here in the winter so I can get back to my great doctors in the town where I lived for several years and seeing friends and family.
Perhaps having the time to entertain The Muse and write that book folks tell me I should do...
Working, yes, I'm not afraid of work, but hopefully having more quality time in our life together. When we're out in our TT, we walk the campgrounds, trails, etc. We stop and chat with people. We sit out at night and gaze at the stars more.
If for some reason we wanted to come off the road, we could get another job in storage doing what we do now. Even in this economy, the storage industry is hanging in there.
Embracing this lifestyle of full-timing until we were unable to do so any longer.
Knowing for sure that my husband would embrace this dream as I do....
Well, that's it, folks. That's my dream, one I've had for years and years. Was going to do it solo, but remarried and it's been sidetracked for a while. We're talking about it now....
The kicker is we currently work 10-hour days and weekends (typically two weekdays off). We get 5 days of vacation every six months. I'm thinking the only way we'll know if this will work for us is to just do it. Living in a small space is not an issue; we have been together essentially 24/7 since October 2005. We live together, work together, shop together, play together. We've lived in Dave's tiny flat in Scotland, so space is not an issue.
Dave is 57 and I'm 51. We have enough resources to start out debt-free, including rig and TV. I'm an 8-year cancer survivor. Life is short.
Am I nuts? Well, okay, maybe you shouldn't answer that!
That's what I envision....that's what I dream...

We are trying to get into a position to live a simpler life ... I do not know if we will FT but we would like the option of having our time be our time and not committed to going to work 40 hours a week..We are debt free except for selling the house.. So I know just what you are saying ... We are hoping that is all goes well the house is up for sale come spring ... we have a campground membership close to home and plan to live there pretty much all sprinng to fall if the house sells fast...than see what we want to do... Nice to know someone else is thinking along the same lines as us.
We are salaried and a regular work week is 44 hours...88 per pay period. Don't mind working, just wish we had more control over our lives at this point.
About three weekends off in three years gets a wee bit old!
I think we made the decision this morning to go forward with plans to get outta here! The next 12-24 months should be interesting...what do ya do with all the PAPER in your life?!?!?! HA!

Good luck to you as you follow your dream. we are also in the process and it is a challenge at times. Luckily the house is sold but we have a little less than two years before we can leave and be debt free but we will get there. We live in the Midwest and need to work for 2 more winters. Right now we are renting but our rig should be here in a couple weeks. It will probably get put in storage right away unless this beautiful weather continues. However in the spring we are moving to the rv and will live in it until next winter. We are hoping we can find a gig house sitting for a snowbird or professor on sabbatical. I think if you get creative there are lots of ways to accomplish your dreams and I wish you well in the pursuit.

Yep, ya got a plan. To provide you with one answer to your question, "What do you do with all the paper in your life?"
The most logical thing is to scan all of it. Put it in files on a Thumb Drive/Flash Drive. A 3gig holds a lot of info. Make a duplicate and carry both separated from each other. You can then put what is vital in a safety deposit box near someone that can retrieve the orginal if it is ever needed.
