It has always been a secret dream of mine to travel in an RV the beautiful sites and destinations America has to offer. However, money always seemed to be an obstical as did my significant other (at the time). Now that one of those problems are not any longer, I have a new sence of freedom and thought, why not a year round or seasonal resident at a National Park, i.e. Crater lake, Oregon? I lived in S.Oregon before and miss it alot. So that are my thoughts at the moment. This is due partially because I'm approaching 50 years young and I'm currently in car sales, and we all know how that is going...So, I'm thinking why not before I get to an age that I cannot do this? Anybody have suggestions for on board pets? Thanks, Shirley

Welcome to the RV Dreams forum. I see no reason why you cannot do this. We travel with 2 dogs and there is a pet section in the forum. I have also emailed you as I see where you are from N.M. southwestjudy

Welcome to the forum, Shirley,
Good to have you aboard. Sounds like you have a strong desire to hit the road in an RV, and there's no reason why you can't. Many people travel with pets, so that should not be a big problem.
We feel as you do. Do it now, while you can. You never know what tomorrow brings.
Good luck with your dreams.

Welcome Shirley!
This is a great life and if it is your dream go for it!
We travel with two Border Collies and a 9 gallon aquarium with Angel Fish and live plants. We have friends that travel with two parrots. Pets aren't a problem at all for us.

Go for it Shirley.... Live your dream.... We had the same doubts about pets on the road, but got a lot of "why nots" from folks on here...as we were concerned about a cat getting out of our rig, and being scared of it getting lost. However .... found out lot's of fulltimers have cats aboard as well as dogs of course. Wishing you all the best.

Hi Shirley!
Welcome - you've found a great forum to get lots of information. We traveled with a dog for many years (until she passed away last year). We loved it & she loved it! In fact, she was the reason we purchased our first RV, so she'd have a safe place to stay when we went places that weren't dog-friendly. As we've traveled, we've seen dogs, cats, and birds with their "parents", so you'll definitely have company while you're on the road.
Shirley, Welcome to the RV Dreams Family. Now is the perfect time to follow your dreams. Shouldn't be a problem bringing your pets with you. We don't have any, but it seems like we're in the minority. Most folks have a dog or two.
Happy travels! Colleen

Don't worry about it, loads of people travel with pets. We have a dog and cat and we have literally dozens of friends that keep pets. Not only are they great company for you, but they also lead to meeting lots of other pet owners.
Good luck,

Welcome Shirley,
The fun can start now!
We have been planning and researching, visiting shows, RV dealerships, online forum and learning a lot. It is a great hobby and by the time you get ready to take the plunge, you will have met a lot of interesting people. Especially it you start checking out their blogs.
There are some good web sites out there, but RV-Dreams is the best I have ever seen -- Howard has done a fantastic job of documenting their who experience.
Welcome aboard and don't hesitate to ask questions.

Speaking of RVing with pets. I was walking our Border Collies today and I heard a woman shout "No" really loud followed by another word I can't post. I looked up and watched her bird take flight and become another wild parrot you see here in South Texas. I felt so bad for her.
I think if I traveled with a bird it would have to have clipped wings.

Coleen,
Having had two happy and healthy parrots in a stix and brix, I can assure you clipped "flight feathers" are a must for their safety even in a house. Keep the fligth feather trimmed precludes your loved avian from flying into a window, they cannot see, and seriously injuring themselves.

Shirley:
If there is any one thing that I have learned in my life it is that there are no gaurantees that we will have the tomorrows we would like to have. We have today, and that is all we have. None of us know what tomorrow will bring if it comes. So my advice would be, take today. Do today what you will. Put all or your heart and sole into it because tomorrow may not come. Don't put off your dreams. Do them now.
If you put some time into reading Howard's economic stuff on this site you will get a very good idea of what expenses will be like. He is very thorough and candid. After over 4 years on the road myself, I have found his economic data to be spot on.
