We are thinking of going to Vicksburg, Mississippi to do the Civil War thing in that area. Does anyone know of a nice campground in or near this area?

Check out Norm and Linda Payne's website at http://www.seeya-downtheroad.com. They just passed through that area and stayed at Rivertown Campground just south of Vicksburg stating that it was a nice campground with free WIFI.

We stayed at the Magnolia RV Park. It was very close to town.
I know nothing about it personally, but it may be another one to check out.

We checked out the info on this thread - but wondered if anyone had more recent stays in the area? We're headed to Vicksburg in about a week and look forward to touring the National Military Park with the boys. Thanks!

I stayed at the Rivertown Campground for one night a couple years ago. It was inexpensive (I believe $15 at the time). I paid cash so they gave me a discount without asking. It's basically a large parking lot with level sites - no trees. The sites were large and almost all are pull-through. The management was friendly and the CG, including the bathrooms, were clean. There were lots of friendly campers there. I must have given a dozen tours of my little Aliner. I would recommend it for one night if you are passing through the area, or visiting the battlefield park. My brother-in-law was working at the park, and he gave us a free tour.
