Shower seat?
Permalink Closed

Does anyone know what the weight capacity is on the shower seat pictured below?  I'm not sure if it's designed to be sat upon, or if it's more for using to lean one's foot upon for shaving or stuff like that.  Post-surgery, I need to sit in the shower and the commode seat I have doesn't fit.  This shower seat seems a little flimsy as is, but I'm thinking of putting a vertical bar under it (probably the spring loaded adjustable things you'd use for a towel rack) to give it more stability.  However, this would only work if the seat is designed to sit on in the first place.  Thoughts?

Have the same seat in our Mobile Suites and the wife sits on it and has not been a problem. 3 years of full time use.

I sat on it a couple of times just to see how solid it was it seemed solid enough for me at a little over 200 lbs. I think I saw somewhere that it was supposed to be rated for 250 lbs but I don't remember where I saw that.

We also have one in our rig but have not really used it much other than to bath little ones or DW shaving legs. DRV adds support behind the wall to screw the seat into to make sure it works as rated. Not sure but if I remember correctly, the Seat is supposed to be rated either at 200# or 250#.

Jeez, it's interesting replying to your spousal unit via a bbs when you're 20 feet away.

Just as a FYI, I stress tested the seat, and I am now a bit over my regular weight,at 230 lbs.

I will likely add a support to the front part to give it more support for her.

Cheers to all

My concern was it coming out of the wall, but from the answers above, I think I'm willing to risk it, especially with the added support underneath for extra security.

We use a shower seat from Walgreens (and other places).

www.walgreens.com/store/c/aquasense-adjustable-bath--shower-chair-with-non-slip-seat/ID=prod6099551-product

It fits both width-wise or depth-wise in our shower. The height is adjustable.

The one we have used for two or three years now.  A round Seat--  Nova Bath Stool  9005

It is about $28.00 in Walgreens.

Works well and holds my 300 pounds.

You safety in the shower is worth that.

Hi cherry,
Did you have a look at this one :healthyhowardmd.org/shower-chairs/?
It seems to have many advantages, but I don't know exactly how much it costs and where you can find it !
I've bought an used Go-Anywere from a CareCure member 2 years ago, bu I haven't tried it yet (!) It's not self propelled, so the carry case is not too big, but a little heavy…

This is a four year old thread, so since it has been revived, it is now being closed.

Remember that Howard prefers that we not respond to threads that are more than a year old.
