Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

We have a 2003 Rockwood fifth wheel. It has one 13,000BTU A/C located in the living area. It is sooooo noisey! The kids have their bunks in the back near the unit. Their bunk room is seperated by a thin wall and a door, but for our youngest,who has to sleep on the top bunk, near that unit (above her bed on the roof and near her bed just on the other side of the wall) She hears that roaring sound of the A/C all night. It is very loud! (So loud that it wakes me up when it cyles on) I've had to put a pillow over my head at night to try to keep out the noise.


Does anyone have similar problem? Do the newer models come with 'quieter' airconditioners? Is that a feature that you can upgrade when looking at new RVs? If they do make AC units that are improved and quiet running, I'd certainly pay the extra expense for the upgrade in a better AC unit.


Maybe in the past few years, the technology for making quiet more efficient RV A/C units has improved! Any suggestions in what to look for in a good/efficient/quiet unit? Does a buyer have much choice in this area? especially an RV thats already on the lot?

The only noise ours makes is the air blowing through the vents. The unit itself only hums. Check and see if there are loose screws and such, some times the vibration causes the parts to rub and and rattle.

Many RV manufacturers now install the A/C units with ductwork for both the incoming and outgoing air, this makes them quieter.  But yours still shouldn't be so loud as to wake you up, I agree with ken and cindy that something might be a bit loose.
