Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Pictures

Well, I just had this all ready to post this and somehow I lost it!!!!! So here it goes again.

I enjoy looking at pictures...especially those of rvers, and their rvs. I've seen them a lot on open roads forum. Or they will put a link you can click on to see recent pictures.

Can that be done on this forum? I see the pictures that some of you guys have put under your user names. Can pictures be put in signatures or in the post?

I like those maps of USA that some put on their post. Where do you get those? how do you put it in your post? (I hope I have the correct terminology. I've read a lot of abbreviations, slang and other words I just don't know what people are talking about on other RV forums)

I know this sounds....beginnerish (just made that word up) But I didn't take forum 101 in college 20 years ago!

So is there an "Everything you need to know about forums guide" out there that I can click on and read how to do all this stuff.

Remember, I'm new to this and you have to learn to walk before you can RUN! (my hubby says that to our kids alot!)

Thanks, Ann (just me. Tom would soooo not admit to needing any help, how to,or directions!!!)

Well this may get a little too technical, but here is a tip on including a picture in the body of a post.  Do you see the <> symbol  with the bold and underline symbols just over the "post an entry" box where you type?  It's the last symbol to the right.

Well web pages are put together using several different programming "languages".  One of the most universal is HTML.  Don't worry about what that stands for.  But when you click on the <> symbol, you will see your post in HTML format.  You will want to be in that format to add pictures.

HTML uses what it calls "tags" to tell the internet how it wants something displayed.  So we are going to learn a "tag" to get a picture in your post.

I presume you have clicked on the <>.  Now, where you want your picture to appear, you are going to type <img src="http://xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx">.  The "<" tells the web that a tag is coming.  The "img src=" means image source equals.  The "http://xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" is the web page where your picture is stored online.  There is no file upload capability for the forum (other than for the "avatar" which is the picture under usernames).  So in order to post or display a photo, it needs to be stored somewhere else on the web.

Give it a try and if it doesn't work, I'll take a look at it and see if I can figure out why it didn't work.

That's a great looking hummingbird feeder and a wonderful picture. I need to down load a picture and give it a try.

Sounds like it was kinda hard to do.???

It was a little difficult, Howard gave some excellent instructions in his post, I ended up copying his example and substituting my picture url. It took a little trial and error....

Well, the posting menu and icons have changed since my first post.  So the <> icon is now gone and is replaced by the "HTML" icon.

And now there is a "Insert/Edit Image" icon (the one with the little tree) to help add pictures.

You still have to have the photo saved on the internet somewhere with its own URL.

It just takes a little playing around to get the picture sizes and placements to your liking.

I'd advise getting the picture inserted first.  Once the picture is inserted you can click on it and then click the "Insert/Edit Image" icon again to resize it or place it.  You can always hit the "Undo" icon if you don't like it.

Let me know if you still have difficulty.

I have been trying to upload a picture of my rig, to go over in the block to the left of the message.  So far I haven't been able to make it appear.  I uploaded the picture to "Avatar" and it is there, but it just doesn't appear in public with my posts.

While I am in no way savvy with posting images in the body or any other "advanced" aspects of forums and internet posting, I have done a liitle reading on different forums.

It seems that I read somewhere that not all "photo hosting" sites have the capability of letting one's images be placed into other places on the web. (Sorry that I don't remember the phrase used that refers to that capability.)

Is it possible that some out there know which photo hosting or photo sharing sites do allow themselves to be "hosts" for a source for other places for images to be posted?

It's possible that if one is having trouble getting a picture into the body of a posting, that it is the hosting site and not the poster's fault.

Then again, does anyone know what I am talking about???  I'm not even sure myself.

Terry

Next to the Log Out button is your name or handle, click on your name and it will take you to your profile page where you will see the option to upload your avatar picture.

The best thing to do is use your own server, ie. your blog site, to upload the photo's and then link to them.  No need to complicate the process by trying to go through a site you have no control over.

Someone asked about the visited states map.

There are a variety of photo hosting sites. I have used Smugmug and Picassa for years with no issues. There is also photobucket, flickr and many others. Google "free photo hosting sites".

MeOK I am in here!!!!!  I think

I right clicked on the picture that was on a web site and copied the URL and then pasted it in the insert edit block.....That was easy enough??? I think.... See how sure I am of what I did...not too many fancy words in there just plain and simple. The picture has to be on the Web to have a URL...OK

Howard, I'm having trouble getting a picture inserted as part of my signature.  I've saved a pic to Picasa on the Web Albums, opened it, copied it, ; pasted it to:

<img src=http://picasaweb.google.com/acorntraveler/BrodyTheBichon#5359884822303244226>

It doesn't post as a photo in my signature.  Or here in the body of my post.

What am I doing wrong?

Not sure if this will help or not, but here is the code I use for my signature.

Decided to add comments to show what does what... smile

<a href="http://travelingrvwx.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://travelingrvwx.com/signaturebanner.gif" border="0" alt="signaturebanner.gif" /></a><img src="http://travelingrvwx.com/pixs/VisitedStatesMap.jpg" border="0" alt="Visited States Map" width="198" height="100" /><p>2008 Monaco Diplomat SFT pushed by 2007 Jeep Wrangler</p><p>-- USAF Retired -- Full-timing since December 2007 <a href="http://travelingrvwx.com/blog" target="_blank" title="Traveling RV Weather Blog">http://travelingrvwx.com/blog</a></p>

<a href=   This starts the creation of a clickable link.  What I have done is make the image "signaturebanner.gif" clickable.  If a person clicks on my image they will get a new window or tab (because of the target="_blank" statement) and be directed to my weather site.

<img src=  This is the image that will be shown in my signature.

</a>   Very important, this ends the clickable link.

The code then will display the visited states map image.  Then I do a paragraph <p> to move my text below the images, and include a direct link to my blog.

Thanks Bear II, for reposting the above with your comments. I had no problem getting a picture in my signature but when I clicked the HTML link in the Tow forum to add a picture, I lost everything including my Internet connection. Just bounced me off three times with an error message.

Still trying to make this work. I have an image uploaded to PhotoBucket that I wanted in my signature.

http://s1273.photobucket.com/user/NWEscapee/media/IMAG0142_zps070d30d8.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0#/user/NWEscapee/media/IMAG0142_zps070d30d8.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0&_suid=136699744484607845048840572999

I've tried adding this both using the icon to add an image as well as trying to add it using the HTML code:
IMAG0142_zps070d30d8.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0&_suid=136699744484607845048840572999

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Good looking rig.

I first thought you were trying to post the picture in the body of the message, then I saw the reference to your signature.  Just in case you want to do more with posting into the body of the message with a photo, check out this link to the Guidelines and Suggestions category at the top of the forums.  It is a thread I started showing how to post photos using Photobucket.

Guidelines Regarding Embedding Photos Into Forum Posts

Terry - thanks, I was looking in Forum Tips instead of Guidelines and suggestions. The link you have above is a great "how to" guide. I noticed some of the topics are "sticky" and always stay at the top of their particular forum, this might be a good one to make "sticky".

Glad you like the rig, hope you would since it's the same 5v'er you have!!

Chris,

In Howard's second post in this thread, he mentioned that the software folks had removed those symbols and replaced them with something else.  Also, in our other thread, which you may have already seen, I confessed to giving you some wrong information.  When inserting a photo into the body of the message, one only needs to "paste" the copied IMG Code from Photobucket into the body of the message.  The "chain link" icon is strictly for inserting links instead of pictures.

I apologize for confusing you.

Terry

I have tried to add an avatar ... but the picture chosen (which is upright on my MAC in Photos) becomes rotated right 90 degrees. So I made four copies of the same picture, each rotated by 90 degrees to give me every possible orientation. Now whenever I import those pictures into the avatar, they all come across EXACTLY as oriented in photos ... except the one that upright ... it continues to be imported rotated right 90 degrees. I've even tried to copy it (as I did the other orientations) and that copy comes in rotated right 90 degrees. I have no idea how to fix this and am out of ideas ... any of you techies know how to import a picture that appears in MAC photos upright, but when imported as an avatar on this board, comes in rotated 90 degrees to the right?
