Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Newbie Q about insurance if I rent an RV

Vinson-Olson. We are planning to purchase either a towable or a MH (C) and it was suggested yesterday (by a reply to my first post) that we think about renting one before we venture out. With a rental, I have the question of insurance for the unit. I would like to know approx. cost for the period of time we are out and where do we go to acquire the insurance or will the renter of the unit provide it.

Newbie Q's for sure.

Thanks   Jerry

Renter will have a separate charge for insurance. They are protecting themselves, not you.

I agree with Larry.  Take their insurance.  I've seen the results of some new, inexperienced people with rental RV's.  One was a case where they hit something like an overpass or big heavy tree branch and obliterated the rooftop air conditioner.

I would check with your current auto insurance carrier and credit card company. I know that my auto insurance covers damage to a rental car but I'm not sure about an RV. However one thing to be wary of is will the rental company want to charge you for lack of use and loss in resale value if you damage one of their vehicles. I have heard of rental car companies doing this, it seem underhanded to me, but I guess it happens. Just food for thought. Whatever answer you get if it is a yes I would make sure it is in writing. Insurance agents are in sales people not adjusters. Just my two cents.

Thanks all for the great advice. I will press these issues today when I visit the rental facility.
