New to the Forum

We are Gary and Pamela Augustine and we will be attending the Fall 2017 Rally.  We have been planning to retire to full time RVing for the past four years, although we first talked about buying a fifth wheel in 1989.  We are one year away from retirement!  Everything is feeling more tangible and real as we get closer to our departure date.  Lots to do before then . . . We have only done a little bit of camping, but it has covered backpacking, tent camping, pop-up trailer and travel trailer.  We have always loved every moment we have spent outdoors with one another (and at times, with our children--now grown).

Hi Gary and Pamela,  My wife and I are where you were four years ago.  Not retired yet but have considerable camping and RVing under our belt.  We now have a 26 ft TT and the plan is to purchase a fifth wheel closer to retirement.  My wife is still on board with the fifth wheel but I'm starting to lean more towards a larger TT.  I'm just not that crazy about driving a DRW truck everywhere we go.  A lot of that depends on whether our grandson is still living with us.

This forum is the right place to ask questions; lots of experienced full timers here.

Welcome,

Steve

If you go for a TT ... invest in a very good weight distribution hitch and a very good anti sway system.

Yep, got them both on our current TT and will definitely have them when we up-size.  One consideration though is that hitch and ball assembly is one heavy chunk of iron!  As I get older I may be leaving it in the receiver more often. smile

When we were at MorRYDE, There was a gent who had a new New Horizons Travel Trailer. That baby weighed around 25,000 lbs. The bars on his equalizer hitch were so thick he used a bottle jack to connect them. A lot of work, but that was an impressive trailer!
