Floor replacement in fifth wheel

Hello,

My wife and I recently purchased a used fifth wheel. we need to replace the sub floor in two spots which will be no issue but we wanted to update the flooring inside. My concern is the thickness of the flooring that can be placed that will not interfere with the slide that the unit has. its a Fleetwood Terry 8275s. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks.

I replaced the carpet flooring in my 5th wheel with laminate flooring a few years ago. The laminate was 6mm thick and was put down over a pad that was about 4mm thick. That gave me a 10mm thick floor which closely matched the carpet and pad I removed.  I have two types of slide outs. The kitchen and bedroom slides were roller slides that just roll over the main floor. The living room slide out was a flush slide that "floats" over the main floor when it's retracted. When it extends, it floats over the main floor as it's going out and rides on a nylon/Teflon strip before it drops down to make that flush floor (covered by an overhang of carpet. The living room slide still has carpet on it).

The rolling slide outs were no problem on the laminate. The flush floor slide tended to drag a bit on the laminate as it extended and retracted. To fix that I ran 1/3 inch soft nylon rope from the top front edge of the slide out, down through the opening in the floor and along the bottom of the slide out and then secured to the bottom at the back edge of the slide out. I put in a strip of rope every two feet or so. Now the slide out floats on the nylon rope instead of dragging on the laminate as it extends and retracts.

Hope that helps.

Hi there, thanks for the great post. I have also heard good reviews about laminate flooring and it is durable. I have also renovated my RV and planning for laminated flooring. While discussing with my friend he suggested me moving company Manhattan who provides flooring services. Any suggestions?
