5th Wheel Rear Generator Carrier

Anyone know of a carrier that will mount to the rear frame on a 2013 landmark 5th wheel. I want to mount a portable Honda generator, and store the fuel can there. It needs to hold 500-600 pounds. Will I need to first have a hitch welded to the frame?

You need to be careful mounting a generator on the rear.  Just the other day I was passed by a rig and was really surprised at how much the bicycles they had mounted on the rear were moving.  I used to carry my generator on the rear until it quit working properly.  I now believe that all the bouncing on the back eventually hurt the generator.  I was passed one day on I-95 by a truck which as soon as he passed me slowed up and and let me pass him.  I noticed in the mirror the occupants of the truck were looking closely at the rear of the RV.  I actually stopped at the next rest area and took a look but did not see anything.  I am now convinced that they were looking at the way the box holding the generator was bouncing on the rear.  I had the generator box mounted to the carrier on the rear.

I have heard of others having similar problems and I am sure others have done it just fine.  I will not carry mine on the rear again.

I know, I have seen some that look like they are barely holding on. I know there is a lot of bounce. I was hoping that I could get a quality carrier that would eliminate all the bounce, and be more solid. I know my landmark has a 12" frame. it also has what looks like two mounting brackets hanging from the rear of the fifth wheel.

What does your RV manufacture say about mounting anything in this location?

Not sure, I will have to check. I know they have the mounting bracket welded to the rear frame for some type of carrier.

From a physics point of view, the dynamic forces are multiplied significantly that distance behind the trailer axles. If you hit a bump that puts 3 Gs on the axles, it's probably two to three times that. RVers with rear kitchens often complain of things getting tossed around in the cabinets and dishes breaking. A receiver-mounted rack would be several feet behind that. Might be OK for weekend campers but for full-timers...

Many of the 2" receivers for towing may have a lower weight rating than what you are specifying, so I strongly suggest you ask the RV's manufacturer what the weight capacity of the "mounting bracket" is.  If the mounting bracket is for a receiver to be added, some of those receivers have a limit of 300 lbs for tongue weight.

I think your right Terry, the mounting bracket is / was designed for a bike carrier option. After reading the manufacturer forums it appears the rack carrying bicycles is failing to carry weight. Too much bounce. Anyone have experience with a tote, center rear wheel swivel trailer?
