Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Norcold 1210 & High Temperature Sensor

I have 2016 Fuzion w/ a Norcold 1210 refrigerator.  Last Thursday when I washed my RV, this High Temperature Sensor tripped and the refridge quit working.  The panel was flashing this L1.oP and beeping.  So I searched the forums and found info of people bypassing this switch.  I wrote to Norcold and they put out this info.  They do have to protect themselves:

The HTS (High Temperature Sensor) is not a customer purchasable part. It is a safety device that may only be reset or installed by an authorized Norcold service center. The L1.OP error code indicates that the HTS has been tripped.  You should unplug your unit from the 110 volt outlet. The HTS is a safety device installed on your unit to protect you, your family, and your coach from a potential fire risk.  If you continue to use the unit you are putting yourself and others at risk.  BYPASSING THE HTS SERIOUSLY PUTS YOU AND OTHERS AT RISK AND WE NEVER ADVISE ANYONE TO TAKE THAT ACTION.

Has anyone bypassed this switch (sensor) without issue until you can get to the dealer?  I have had mine bypassed since Thursday.  Monitoring it, I have found no issue or major heat coming from the area.  However, to error on the side of caution I wanted to run it by this august group for your input.

This is a common problem with the design of the module.  Had ours do the same thing a couple of years ago due to driving rain entering the refrigerator vent and causing the module to activate.   Search the web for reset of the module with a magnet.  By using a strong magnet  in the vicinity of the LED on the module you can reset the magnetic reed switch and have the module again monitor for high temp per design.   Resetting the module would be preferable to bypassing it as you lose any hi temp protection if you bypass.  Of course Norcold wants you to have the whole thing checked out and their instructions are to stop using the refrig until it can be seen by an authoriuzed Norcold technician.  You take on any risk if you do otherwise.

As a separate note:  Escapees magazine had a series of articles by the designer of the ARP module which is a far better design to protect from high temperatures  in RV refrigerators.  Look up the ARP module on YouTube.  We added the ARP module and a Halon fire extinguisher in back of the Norcold 1210 after reading about RV refrigerator fires in various forums
