Finding those little Gems

We were fortunate enough to find a little gem here off I-95 on the way back up to NC. Colleton S.P., S.C. For those of us with 35' or less its a nice spot. The Edisto river is here at the park and the ranger with transport you up river and you can float down back to CG. Just one problem we have yet to get our inflatable. Soon to be added to the collection. Good fishing I here, Bream and catfish. Camphost filled us in. Well for those concerned Walmart is 10 miles away. Propane 10 miles too, ran out last night burr....  Life is good. Happy Trails all.

Rush and Lola, thanks a mill for sharing this wonderful little place = just checked out the photos and website on line. It's our kind of place, as we love to fish and kayak = small and cozy with great hiking around as well. Added to our spreadsheet for the Carolinas :)

It's amazing how you'll just happen to find some gem camping spots.

I remember as a kid my parents and their friends found a canyon in some hills in the desert near Joshua Tree National Park. I was outside the park and we would go there during the spring to tent camp and play with jeeps and mini bikes. True boondocking.

My wife and I have found three so far. Two we just happened upon and the third was due to some research on RV Park Reviews.

First one is Rincon Parkway north of Ventura, CA. You park parallel to the Pacific Ocean on a low bluff above the beach. The soothing sound of the waves, watching birds, dolphins, seals makes for a very relaxing time. Go there for a weekend and you fell like you've been there for a week.

Next is San Lorenzo Park off of Hwy 101 south of Salinas in King City. Here's the website www.co.monterey.ca.us/parks/sanlorenzo.html
We pulled in for an overnight and ended up staying for 4 days.

On RV Park Reviews I was looking for a place to stay near Sequoia Nat'l Park. The reviews for Sequoia RV Ranch looked good so we decided to give it a try and were very pleased with it. It's a rustic campground next to a river and set in old growth oak and pine trees. It's near enough to the national park for day trips in to see the sights. The owners were upgrading the park to provide more modern amenities.

It truly is a blessing to find such little gems.  We have been fortunate to find a few also in the short 8 months we have been full timing.  We planned on staying at a state park in Gulf Shores, Alabama over Easter and tried to reserve a space about a month before our arrival ... all 500 spaces were taken!  So my DW searched and found a small, family owned campground about 10 minutes west of Gulf Shores -- Bay Breeze RV on the Bay  (http://baybreezerv.com/index.html).  A small, clean and quiet campground of 24 sites with a wonderful view.  It's owned and operated by a husband and wife who are knowledgeable and make sure you enjoy your stay.
