Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hi Everyone, my name is Jackie (I’m British) and my lovely husband is Frank. I lost my husband a few years ago and Frank was alone, we both feel soooooo lucky to have found each other!

 

We married seven years ago and our life is all about making memories. We have this ‘dream’, and we want to make it come true earlier in life rather than later (60 and 62). However, due to some bad choices in life (and unfortunate ones) we have to work initially while experiencing our dream to make it work. We think we have decided on the RV we would like and we are doing our research in the hope that we can take off soon. Frank is a Master Ford Mechanic, he has RV certification but has never put it into practice; does anyone have any idea, apart from the obvious work camping what he could possibly do on the road?

Must be temporary mechanic jobs open at Ford dealers all across the country.

Jackie (I'm British) and Frank, I am happy you are researching how to get the memories started early and work through the finances. Frank is obviously mechanically inclined. With the RV market growing rapidly, I suspect the need for repairs will outpace repair capacity. We are seeing this with Tiffin motorhomes. Recommend Frank look at getting trained/certified/tooled in a few special systems and get listed as a certified technician by the component manufacturer.
One such system is the AquaHot heating system found on large RVs. It is a somewhat complex system with few properly trained/experienced technicians. One technician we use, got his certification/tools/parts and attends shows and rallies around the country servicing these units (He gets invited to the Prevost rallys even though he doesn't own one). The AquaHot system could be a good funding stream because the systems required annual cleaning and maintenance that is beyond most RV owner's capability/desire to perform. Get trained by the factory, purchase some speciality tools and initial parts inventory and the company will put you on the list as a certified tech and refer customers to you. You will probably start getting calls before you get home from training.

Thanks, Frank said he is going to look into the dealerships, having worked in only a couple all of his life he never thought they may take on seasonal staff.  Only problem is he would have to haul around his to tools as well as a motor cycle, may have to rethink the RV we buy....ie a toy hauler; which I didn't really want, oh well, here we go again lol

Hello fellow Brit!   What a great idea, Frank is quite excited about this and if it worked out we may even be on the road earlier than anticipated.  We have been away for the weekend and had a few hours on the way to discuss it, he will be checking it out later this week.  I will let you know how its going, thanks again.
