Yellowstone Campground options

Hello All

We are in full gear planning our year long trip out west for 2017. We are looking for campgrounds in the West Yellowstone area.

Does anyone have any recommendations or know of anyone who has spent some time there that might be able to help?

We are planning our visit for about the first week of June and planning on staying two weeks. Not looking for boondocking sites but would do them if they were close and we felt they would be available during that time frame.

We stayed at Henry’s Lake State Park (Idaho), which is about 30-minutes from the west entrance to Yellowstone. The state park is a destination in itself, if you enjoy a natural setting. Sites 46 thru 63 have a nice lake view and they are in the newer part of the campground (i.e., the area you will best fit). They have a few full hook-up sites (but they don’t have as nice of a lake view), most sites are water and electric and the park has a dump station.

Grizzly RV Park in West YELLOWSTONE is a pricey and busy campground, but the restrooms, pool and laundry facilities are kept up well. There are five laundry rooms scattered around the park. It has nice landscaping but typical site spacing, not close, you can open your slides with no issues, but they aren't spacious. You are only two blocks from downtown and a couple minutes from the west entrance of YELLOWSTONE. We walked everywhere around town except the north side, from the park; to shops, restaurants and the two grocery stores in town.

We prefer the back rows, but the pull through sites are easier with your long trailer. There are a bit less expensive campgrounds scattered around town but not as nice and almost just as expensive. Near the park everything is expensive. There is National forest campgrounds but they would be tight and are about 7 miles out of town to the north. To the west are a couple also, but put you with a further drive into the park. Plan to spend anywhere from $45 - $85 per night in the area. Most places we found average the same, $65, but aren't as nice or are further away. We like the convenience of Grizzy.

Bakers Hole NF Campground about 4 miles from W. Yellowstone.  Beautiful, flat sites, some with electric.  Water available at entrance.  No reservations but we have only had problems once getting a site there.  Just be there closer to 10am when people are leaving.  Mid week is better.  Here is the Compendium reviews and more info: https://www.campendium.com/bakers-hole-campground

Many thanks to all that responded. This is why we love this site so much. Thanks Debbie for the great recommendation to Bakers Hole. We called there today for more details and it sounds wonderful and is going to fit right into our plans. Going to save a bundle of $$$ as well.

I prefer the West Entrance/Yellowstone Park KOA in West Yellowstone. It is nicely-run, a little pricey but with more roomy sites. We saw Grizzly RV Park and my 28-year-old daughter said it looked like camping on a golf course. She also liked the more rustic KOA.
