Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

What about a Thor Palazzo?

I've been looking at a new 2017 Newmar Canyon Star 3710 38' gas coach.  The other day after driving the Canyon Star, they had a new 2016 Thor Palazzo 36.1.  Just on a lark I decided to drive it, I say on a lark because I've read terrible things about it.  From the front cabinets above the driver falling down, to slides not working, to general shoddy workmanship.

As I sat in the drivers seat I thought to myself, "why am I driving a Thor Palazzo with all the things I've read about it"? Unfortunately I loved it so what do I do now?  The salesman told me he purposely said nothing so I didn't have his thoughts one way or the other. He said that most people who drive a Palazzo really like it!  And he could add me to that list!

The Palazzo would cost about $13 to $15 thousand more than the Canyon Star but do I dare buy a Palazzo?  I do not want a used motorhome so it's either a Palazzo and go diesel or a Canyon Star and go gas. My finances stretch only so far.  Your help please!

We thought they were nice too. Not ready to buy yet, tho. I've heard that the major slide issues were taken care of a year or two ago. Maybe see what people are saying on the Thor forum on the IRV2 Forum?

Or you could try checking on the Thor forums There you will find other owners of the Palazzo or other Thor brands. I've found that if you're looking for information on a particular brand, try to find that brand's forum and listen to other owners, not what someone has read or has a pre conceived notion about.

With regards to forums, especially those who are orientated to a certain brand, keep in mind that many posters are people who are looking for a solution to a problem.  However, that is not necessarily indicative of the quality of the brand/model.  While one might see a number of negative comments about "Brand X," there may be many, many more owners who aren't having a problem with said brand.  I suggest registering for owner's forums and asking your own questions about issues you've heard about.  Along that line, Thor's forums are open to anyone that registers.

In the past, and still today, I suggest that one question to ask would be something like this: "If you were to buy another RV, would you buy the same brand/model you currently have, and if not, why not."  Many times, I think you will find owners that will say that yes, they have had problems, but they would buy the same brand/model again.  And if they were to say they would buy a different model of the same brand, it is usually for some very good reasons.
