Lake George Ny to Cedar Key Floridas time period

we have a 43' 5er, plan to leave Lake George NY October 1 . We need to be in Cedar Key Florida for January 1

so we can take our time. Any suggestions for a route and places to stay would be welcome. Right now we have nothing planned for this time period.

 Looking for all suggestion.

Hopefully you already have your January (and later) on reservations in Florida…they're hard to come by this late in the travel season.

For your route south…well, it depends on what you want to see. The museums and such in DC are nice if you haven't been there. If that sounds good…check into Bull Run Regional Park in Centreville VA…there are only 2 parks reasonably close to a Metro stop, Bull Run and Lake Fairfax park but the latter doesn't have full hookups, only E/W.

We've stayed in a variety of places up and down the east coast depending on how far off of 95 you want to get. For us…from Lake George I would come down through Harrisburg and stay well west of DC unless you're going to Bull Run…and would never take the rig on the Capital Beltway (I-495) at any time of the day or night…the traffic is just too bad.

Pocahontas State Park south of Richmond VA is also very nice…as are some of the parks over on the Outer Banks if you are going that way. Escapees has a nice park named Raccoon Valley just north of Knoxville if you're going that way. Further on south…Charleston, Savanah, and Jacksonville are also great places to visit.

Hi Neil and Coonnie.
We want nothing to do with The DC area been there done that. Want to avoid that area with our rig.
We are thinking of a stop in the Catskills over to the Pocconos then continuing down the skyline some how we want to keep most of our travels days to less than 200 miles and would like to stay a week or so depending on the area. May only stay 3 or 4 days in the Catskill Pocconos area,s.
We are just starting our fultime adventure so not really sure yet what we like and don,t like.
Yes we have already booked Florida. We have December at Cedar Key RV resort. Then we move to Blueberry Hill RV resort in Bushnell for February , then over to Hudson at 3 lakes RV resort for the month of March. From there we plan to Move up north to attend the spring RV-Dreams rally in May.
That is our rough plan for right now

Given your desire to avoid the DC area…you can come pretty much straight south from Lake George to western PA then western MD and either take 81 south or head a little more west to the Blue Ridge Parkway…although that might have some height issues…we've never really looked at it. There are plenty of nice places in western VA, NC, SC and GA on the way south…if you want to avoid the rush on I-95.

We can take our time so I think a western route would be best, height could be a issue as we are 13'4"

I-81 is fine down via PA, etc. - then I-77.  I can "get" you to Cedar Key with no height issues at all.  Not a problem.  You can cut across New Hampshire and Vermont to come down the west side.  Nice drive actually.  If you have any trouble finding the route PM me and I'll give you a map.  We've just driven this route as we have in the past.  No problem with your rig.

Whatever you do, do not get on the Blue Ridge Parkway with a trailer.  Height is an issue - even with an Airstream. :)
