Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

spending winters in Alabama

I going full time in the next couple months. I know I'll be stay mostly in Wisconsin

this summer. I looking at different states to spend next winter at I know Arizona,Florida,Texas

are top snowbird states but I'm looking at Alabama. From what I've seen on weather.com its in the 60's most days

40's most night that is ok with me. so my questions are

how many have stayed in Alabama?

Was the weather decent?

What campground did you stay at?

Thanks

Stayed in Gulf Shores, Alabama. State park is real nice (paved, 50amp, pool etc). Nice til end of Nov then cold til Feb. Too cold for us to visit again in Dec & Jan. but fall & spring are great.

The Escapees park, Rainbow Plantation, is in Summerdale, very close to Gulf Shores. We have stopped for a short stays there, since friends are there and it is a very friendly place with large campsites. But, it is not that warm in winter, most days you will not be comfortable sitting outside and long pants are needed. This also applies to Louisiana, southern Mississippi, and the Panhandle of Florida through to Jacksonville.

We have spent most of this winter in Alabama. The lows have hot freezing a couple times, but most nights have been in the 40-50s. We are currently at Gulf Shores State Park. It is very large and near filled to capacity. They charge about $40 a night FHU. Check Sherling Lake Park in Greenville, AL. It is on a lake adjacent to a Robert Trent Jones Golf Course between Montgomery and Mobile. Nice quiet spot with level FHU sites for $20 night. It can get full during hunting season wth folks from Florida. The town is a few miles away and has anything you need.

We are at the Escapees Rainbow plantation park in Summerdale Alabama now. It's a nice spot and I would stay here again. The weather has been in the low 40s at night and low to mid 60s during the day. We went to the Pensacola Naval Air museum and the USS Alabama battle ship park and really enjoyed both. Oh and we went to Flora-Bama and partook of the native drink called a Bush Wacker!
Which I highly recommend.😜😎
Safe Travels.

I grew up in Mobile and while it's warmer than it is in Wisconsin…it ain't warm. You'll need coats, sweaters, and long pants. If you want to be in shorts and T shirts most of the time you need to get Tampa or southward from there. We winter in North Fort Myers…far enough south to be decently warm but not so far south that the rates get outrageous. It's more expensive here than in AL…but ya gotta figure what is the nicer weather worth. We pay 1050/month here but you can get a site in Arcadia (inland and north from the coast about 40 miles from here) for probably 600-700…but Arcadia is sort of out in the middle of nowhere.

We briefly considered southern Texas…but after visiting there decided it's just too windy on average so we skipped it…although you can get nice weather like we do in southern FL at a somewhat lower cost than here.

If you winter in Alabama, don't forget to factor in that they have a 3% tax on groceries.
