Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

So after a year I finally tackled the job of emptying the black and grey tanks and truly it was not that bad.  This completes one of my "big three" concerns about what would happen to me if Lee was incapacitated in some way.  Next up learning to hitch/unhitchc the truck comfortably by myself and finally learning to drive on a 6% grade.  I figure if I can do those three things then no matter what happens I will be able to function alone if god forbid something happened.   Anyways if you are curious how it went here's the post.

Good job, Trace.

But, after reading all that you went through, I'm not sure I'd have the patience for doing all that process.  Of course, we aren't traveling yet, so I may have to do something similar one day, but I really like having all the hook-ups.  We just don't have the macerator toilet, so we would have to dump directly into the disposal tank.  We bought a disposal tank back in 2011 when we vacationed in a state park in Oklahoma without hookups.  I used that to dump our grey tank once and haven't used it since.

As for driving up and down the grades, I think you will find it is easier than you think.  I suspect your truck has the Tow/Haul feature, and that will help make things easy for you.  Just pay attention to what Lee does and follow suit.

No evidence that the dump site/station is now a Superfund clean up site... job well done.biggrin    

In your blog report, you mentioned that you forgot a step and corrected that with a reminder note taped near the offending mistep which seems like a good idea. What if the taped on note falls off?  It occurs to me that you should have a written out step checklist to refer to when doing the dirty deed, so nothing gets overlooked just in case the next time you are called into action, perhaps months from now. It don't have go by from some forgotten memory. Even professional pilots work off checklists even if they know it by heart. Just sayin'.

Great write up on one of the more unglamorous RV jobs.
