Thousand Trails

I know you have a Thousand Trails Zone pass and was wondering if you could give me some feedback on your impressions so far.

We have had the Thousand Trails Zone Pass in the past, but not currently.  The first time, we got the Zone Pass for $199 and we selected the northeast zone when we were traveling that way.  The math made it worthwhile if we stayed in Thousand Trails parks more than seven nights which we did.

The second time, we got a Zone Pass for free as an apology for deals Thousand Trails made with us that they later went back on.  Of course that was worthwhile.

The Thousand Trails parks are okay, but they tend to be older and improvements don't seem to be a priority.

I'm not a big fan of Thousand Trails or campground memberships in general, but they can make a lot of sense if the math works out and your intended travel takes you to the areas where they have parks.  If the goal is simply saving money on campground fees, a Zone Pass can be a great deal (if you stay in the parks enough) as long as you understand the quality of the parks may not be what you expected and it's possible you many not be able to get into the most popular parks during peak seasons.

I see the current rate for a Zone Pass is $545, but they have a $100 off special going until October 9.  So, for $445, if you stay in parks in your selected zone 10 - 15 nights during the year, the math works.

However, they often offer much better deals at RV shows and sometimes they will offer two zones for the price of one.  If I wanted to buy a pass, I would go to one of the larger RV shows where they will be OR call and ask for any "unadvertised deals", "show pricing", or some other special.

Hope that helps.  :)

Bill and I bought a Zone Pass on a special deal - 2 Zones for $654 and we got a $200 discount at the park we were at at that time. I did a simple write up on my blog of how it worked for us this past year. We aren't sure if we will renew or not, as we plan to boondock out west and also workamp this coming up year.

Doing some quick math as of your blog post date, your TT package has cost you 12.20 per night. It will get lower the more you use it. You have certainly got your money's worth out of  it. Way to go!

We bought it b/c we knew the area where we would be spending the summer would be very expensive otherwise! Probably would not have been able to stay as long visiting family as we did!

As you pointed out - the more you use it - the cheaper it gets - we will probably only use it once more before it expires - we are at Amazon thru end of Dec and the membership expires end of Jan. We'll see.

Thanks for reading!
