Extra 50 amp extension?

As the saying goes, the tool you leave behind is the one you will need.

I carry a 15 foot (because I need about that length 50% of the time) and a 30 foot for the times the 15 foot doesn’t reach. That is in addition to the 30 foot I have on the electric cable reel.

Here’s the deal: If you travel much you will find power pedestals all over the place in distance and location from your rig. The 15 footer usually is enough when the pedestal is just in a location which is at the opposite end of the rig. But I’ve had many times when I needed a 30 footer due to the pedestal nearest my rig being defective. Last trip, to save moving after we set up and the pedestal “went bad” I needed both the 30 and the 15 foot extension.

Your choice, but note the first sentence please. As a good friend of my likes to say and I quote: "Ask me how I know this?"

We carry a 30' extension that we have used. Several times it was because I didn't want to move the camper 2-3 feet and once because the power pedestal was at the road.

For one if you are worrying about 25# then you need a bigger TV.

YES, take it along your wife is correct. Do you really want to hear "I told you we would need it" ????????

We carry both a 15' and 30', just like Bill and Linda and for the same reasons. Yes, we have needed both at the same time at a couple locations.
The real fun is when you are camped outside a normal campground. Once we helped a couple days with computers and were overflow at a paved area near the workcamper "campground". We needed about 150' of cord to get to the 30AMP, and used as much 50AMP cord as we had to keep the voltage reasonable.

Bill J: I guess most will call it overkill, but I also carry a 30 foot 30amp cord and yes I’ve needed all of them – including the 30 foot on the electric real, 105’ total to get “some power.” It was unusual, but it was all of that cable or no power at all. The nearest working power source available in the totally full commercial park was that far away.

Isn’t this lifestyle fun? We all have stories.

We don't carry an extra 50 AMP cord, only once in 2+ years would we have needed that, due to the weird pedestal placement. We do carry an extra 30 foot extension, but again, have only needed that a few times.

We carry a 25' 50 amp ext cord using it right now moochdocking at BIL/SIL. Also carry 25' 30 amp cord, 50' 12 gauge extension cord. This may seem like overkill but in 4 years of full timing all cords multiple times. Tom

We don't carry an extra 50-amp cord. However, we do carry a 25-ft 30-amp cord. In 95% of the cases where we've needed extra cord, it has been to reach a 30-amp plug-in anyway. So, the 50-amp cord with an adapter and 30-amp cord works for us. Usually, it's been the 30-amp pedestals that have been so far away anyway. The only times in ten years that we have needed more than 50 feet of cord, is when "moochdocking" at friends' and family houses, but then we only need and adapter and a cord for 20 amps. :)

Of course it the cords won't reach, the solar set-up with the inverter works great. :)

We used ours once this summer. It kept us from moving a third time in an hour due to pedestal problems. We have a 50' 50amp extra cord. We didn't have it in a previous coach and we could have had a beautiful view of a river, instead we had a wonderful view of a metal building. I won't leave home without it even with it's weight and bulk in size.

You only have one AC unit on your rig so a 30 amp cord works pretty well. But, for those of us that need / want two AC units to be comfortable, like today on our way to Phoenix, 50 amps is recommended. LOL

But commenting on the solar deal: I have run 2 AC’s on 30 amps many times using the solar / inverter and LP to run everything else till things cool down outside. If the 30 amps is a “good” 30 amps it works well and my Linda is smiling. Always a good thing when "Lindas" are smiling.
