Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Our first Thanksgiving full timing

So, here we are at our work camping job, in a climate of Texas that is not tropic but not snowing like where we left from upstate NY. We are happy with our new lifestyle and glad to be doing what we are doing. So, our first holiday is upon us - I am not a big mush, but am missing our friends & family. We are planning a non-traditional grill of steak & shrimp and do some hiking I hope (I'm fighting a stupid cold). I am ever so grateful for where we are at & we will celebrate our new lifestyle. So, how did you all do on your first major holiday full timing? BTW, Have a happy & blessed Thanksgiving all of you - we are grateful to all of you!

Happy Thanksgiving Linda and Scott! I am also missing family - we are with my parents - but NOT with my kids! I have talked to my son, who is making his first turkey this year! Will call my daughter later. I have learned over the last few years to share them with "others" on holidays, but I won't see them at all this year! 😞

Anyway - enough of that! We are grateful to be here in the WARM of FL and with my parents for the holidays (first time in like 8 years!). We are grateful that one year ago we were making our first purchase (our truck) toward our new "wanna be" full-time lifestyle and here we are now - LIVING IT! Life is good!

Hugs to all!

We spent our first one with family in CO. We got there at the end of Oct and stopped to visit before heading south to FL with other stops on the way. Our relatives insisted that we stay for Thanksgiving but my first reaction was one due to me still being in Vacation mode "no way, we have to get south and Thanksgiving is five weeks from now ". Then I realized that we didn't have a schedule and we could do what we want. From then on the vacation mode faded quickly.

After that we spent Thanksgiving in a number of different spots. CO, TX, and AZ. For the last few years were with friends we met on the road.
We met up in places all over the US during the year and several of us ended up in AZ at the same RV park for a number of years so split up the cooking and celebrated together.

This is our first Thanksgiving on the road as well. I am really missing my kids and grandkids but we will be joining the RV park potluck this evening and we will Skype with family too so that should help.

Even though we won't be with family we are grateful to be able to enjoy this lifestyle.

Our first holiday without family in CA.  We were determined to have local specialties for Thanksgiving dinner.  So here in Savannah, GA we ate at the Old Pink House.  Steve had an amazing Grouper and I had the traditional turkey and sides.  We shared.  It was yummy, but is sure wasn't the Ravioli and Meatballs with family!  Very nice day!

Happy Thanksgiving. This is our 1st one away from family also. We really missed our children. We now are in New Orleans and our dinner was crawfish étouffée. This was quite a change from our traditional turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy.

I would probably have crawfish étouffée if I was in New Orleans myself. But I do love turkey and had it today at a good friends house in Jacksonville, Florida.

Like others, this is our first Thanksgiving on the road. We miss our family and friends back in the Midwest but we were able to spend it with our kids for the first time in 13 years!

Sounds like others have non-turkey food traditions, too. Ours is fajitas, other Tex-Mex delights, and homemade pecan pie instead of pumpkin.

Our deployed service men and women are away from family during many holidays.  Please remember to give thanks for their dedication.

I read that someone was having Margaritas and fish tacos out in the south-west desert! Sounds like my kind of Thanksgiving!

This is our first T'giving on the road as well, although spent with our daughter and son in law in NC. We've done this for the past 3 years, except it always meant driving back and forth 10 hours from NJ, and spending a long weekend in their small apartment. Each year, we kept saying how nice it would be for us to "have home will travel," and how that has come true!!! They are now in a beautiful 3 BR house, but still, it's nice to be able to go back to our own place. And it's also nice to have the option to stay put or move to another location, but not worrying about trekking back to NJ with all the rest of the holiday travelers.

Always nice to have/start new traditions...whether celebrating with new friends or family or eating turkey or fajitas, there's a lot to be thankful for! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

This was our second Thanksgiving since going full time and we're finding that we're already starting new traditions, grilling a turkey roast which means we can sleep in on Thanksgiving day, Yay! Marveling in the fact that we can enjoy part of the holiday sitting outside, this year it was breakfast sitting outside which watching the local bird population swarm our feeders! We also learned a lot from last year's holiday, this year I didn't plan quite such an ambitious menu, we won't have home made cranberry sauce for 2 months, finding new places to visit over the holiday weekend, avoiding the Black Friday crowds and being thankful that we can enjoy this life style at this time in our lives.

We'll be flying to visit family for Christmas this year and know that for several other holidays (4th of July, Labor Day, Memorial Day, etc.) we'll be close enough to visit family if we want to. We're realizing Thanksgiving is one of the few holidays where it's just the 2 of us. So, we're enjoying a much more laid back holiday, counting our blessings that for many of our holidays we will be near family and friends.

We spent our first with my sister and it was great. I would like to start new traditions as well. Been thinking about Christmas decorating and how I am going to do it. Would like something different.

For our first Thanksgiving on the road, we had a potluck dinner at the park in Henderson, NV the Saturday before. On Thanksgiving day, we had a traditional meal at the Black Bear diner in Bullhead City, AZ. Christmas and New Years will be spent in Livingston, TX becoming Texans!!

Allen and Donna,

Sorry we missed you...guess we missed some others, too.  I've been trying to update our location on RVillage.com. We're in Yuma now and heading for Livingston, TX on Thursday.

Vance
