Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
A real newbie here. I've been looking at a 26' forest river fifth wheel Flagstaff super lite classic. They say this is designed to be pulled with a 1/2 ton pick-up. I've always pulled horse trailers, but we used a 3/4 ton truck. The weight of the Fifth wheel is 6290 dry weight with a cargo weight of 1490 lbs. Any thoughts? I really would prefer a 1/2 ton and just have one vehicle but it seems light to me. Any suggestions, comments? Than you.
All depends on your 1/2 ton and what the weight is that it is capable of towing on the sticker. 2 wheel drive, 4 wheel drive, cab size, box size all seem to have different ratings. You also need to account for the passengers and stuff carried in the truck. Guess what I am saying is, more info needed.
Chevrolet says a 4x4 v-8 will tow 12,000 lbs. I was told by a friend that just bought a new chevy to tow with to get the 6.5 bed. My total hitch weight, dry weight and cargo weight would probably not exceed 10,000 lbs
