How About RV Pet Sound Off?

I thought it might be fun if we "sounded off" about what pets we are or will be RVing with and if you have a dearly departed friend, feel free to share that also.

Rinnie:  Chow/Shepherd/Other, adopted from Dothan Animal Shelter in AL at 12 weeks, now 9 1/2 years.  Loves camping and long walks.

Yellow Dog:  Lab, adopted from Nevada Animal Shelter in MO, supposed to be a "couple" years but I noticed signs of aging probably making her more like 8 when we adopted her 2 years ago.  Loves camping and could walk forever non-stop.

Sparky:  Guinea pig, we bought her when she was 4 weeks old and now she is 4.3 years old.

Duchess (75 lb English Shepherd) gets "honorable" mention.  She loved camping and full-time RVing.  We were in an S/B and she wasn't doing well and we were moving to an RV for full-time.  We were not sure she would survive the trip when she was 12 years old but she rebounded once we started RV living and had another 1 1/2 years of life.  Worth noting was that she had developed paranoia with the house and yard, I think being too big for her to feel that she could be the protector but with the RV, she could handle the whole job from one location.

The current dogs were found on Petfinder and I recommend both of the shelters since they work with you to find the right dog and are anxious to make a placement.

We travelled with two Keeshonds. Medium sized dogs with lots of fur. I enjoyed having them with us but now that they have both passed on, I will have to think twice about having another pet.

My biggest "pet peeve"...not being able to sleep in. The dogs needed to be walked early each day. Once I'm up, I'm up so no going back to bed.

Also, worrying about them when we would have to leave them in the RV while we did some other activity where dogs were not allowed. Would they stay cool enough, make a mess, not bark....etc.

My girl miss "Nikki"

Nikki is an Alaskan Klee-Kia Husky, She is a Medic Alert Service dog with a Grand history!!
Prior to nikki being assigned to me she belonged to a little girl in Mathuen Mass for 5 yrs....durring that time she was not socialized and became very aggressive and in the end attacked the doctors and nurses that attempted to see the little girl...she was removed and placed on death row for biting!!

Fast forward....I was sent to the facility that held Nikki to be fitted & trained with a service dog...while in the kennel area looking at my choices the staff took there lunch break , I didnt want a dog and really couldnt find one small enough to live with in an RV among my choices.......well I spot in another area this cute little girl and wander over to her cage....she growls at me and I just sat down next to the cage & we talked....needless to say I opened the cage and put my halter on her(yes...she nipped me!).....I took her out and let her sit with me....rubbed her belly....and she decided to snuggle up on my lap.........

then the staff comes back......the room goes quite and everyone tells me to very carfully back away from the dog that it is extremely aggressive and de-socialized and is planned on being put down......I just sat there...rubbing her head and said......

I live in an RV.....I just spent 2 yrs in a Hospital.....I live in the woods......let me tell you about desocialization... I want this dog!!!

That was the day I saved Nikki's life......6 months later Nikki saved mine,Twice!!....(I wipe tears at this moment)......she is the greatest Pal I have ever had in life and owe her forever!!

she loves running in the RV......does not like people and is very protective of me while out.....demands to be introduced when guests stop in......and loves her cookies!!!

some of the best things come about when you decide to ...Live , Breathe & Relax.......

We have a AKC 20lb Female shiba inu who is 7. We bought her from a breeder , and had her flown in as a pup.

She has more space in the trailer than I do, she has 4 padded spots around the trailer to look out the windows...lol

Just bought a doggie stroller too, so we can try and take her with up to more events / attractions as we travel.

She's a good dog. does not bark unless there is a real problem.

I mentioned we should get a small rescue dog so the 2 would have company.. wife's not having it.. Since she is the one walking the dog, I guess it's her call..lol I will keep working on that..

We have in our family:

Our cat - Tabby

Our bird - Sweet Cheeks

Our Gold fish - Stuey and Duey!

We lost our little boy Boomer the Beagle a couple of years ago but he still travels with us as he loved camping!

They all have their own little personalities and they all let you know when they need attention!

Bill and I are traveling with 3 pets:

Raskal - 16 1/2 year old Tuxedo kitty - he was my daughters cat, she got him when he was 8 weeks old and she was 9, when she moved out into an apartment she couldn't take him with, so we inherited him. He has many nicknames: Grumpy, Old Man, Lumpy Bumpy Kitty (he has a lot of skin tag kind of things) and my daughter still calls him "Roo".

Cocoa - 14 years old Australian Cattle Dog/Black Lab mix. We adopted her for my son when she was a tiny puppy and was a Christmas morning surprise. She is the best dog! We inherited her also when my son moved out - no dogs allowed. She loves to travel with us, all Bill has to say is "want to GO!" and she perks right up! She is an old girl now with a couple health issues and has slowed way down.

Callie - 5 year old Maine Coon tortie. She was a Christmas gift from Bill and my kids the year my son (who is my youngest) went to college. She is the sweetest kitty ever! She is 100% MY cat - she tolerates Bill - just barely! LOL! She sits on my lap while I watch TV.

That is my furfamily!

We have a rescue dog, she's a Lhasa Apso that had been running the streets for (as near as they could figure) 3-6 months. She's all of 12 lbs and cute as all get out. She loves to cuddle and just be petted and held. That WAS NOT ALWAYS the case when we first brought her home 1 yr ago. As near as we can figure she must have been abused by a woman. When we first met Missy at the rescue shelter she came up to me but would go no where near my wife. Chris found her on the internet and fell in love with her at first sight so home we went with Missy. For the first 2-3 months Missy would lay next to Chris but out of the blue she'd jump up and ATTACK Chris's feet. Of course this disheartened my wife. After a rather hard attack (no blood was ever drawn though) I put her in her travel chage and covered it with a towel for about 20 minutes. When I let her out she went of to my DW and sort of whimpered and apology and that was the last time she did that. We were kind of Leary of taking her camping as she didn't seem to socialize too well. Well after the 2 camping trip she was hooked, and would strut around the campground like some little diva. No when we mention taking "The Little House" (our motorhome) she jumps up and gets all excited.

Pepper, our little black Pomeranian, is 15 years old now. We found her at a "puppy farm" south of San Antonio when she was 10 weeks old, and brought her home for forever. She is getting up in years but "go" is still her favorite word! She has always been a great traveler and nothing beats walkies in a new RV park. She is the only animal we have traveled with. I would think twice about getting another animal while we are traveling because we always have to plan around what is best for her and it is sometimes inconvenient.

I'm just wondering if this is something to do with being South of the border. I read this style quite often if it's posted from down South.

Shouldn't it read?.....

"When we travel they love to sit on the dash of our rv and look out the Window. They sit with there noses on the window and help me watch the road".

I appologize for making this look like a Grammar Class......I was just curious as I see this a lot.

The same with sale and sell. I see people write "I put my car up for sell" rather than "I put my car up for sale".

It looks like I may have offended you.......Which was not the intent. When I said South of the border, yes I meant Canada/USA border. I don't see this up here like I see it down there. That's what I was wondering, if it's some sort of a "slang" used in the U.S.

I know it's nothing related to the thread topic but it's just something I've noticed a lot and was wondering.......That's all.

Molly - black Lab. She is gone now, but we had her when we first started with our Airstream (both kids in college). She loved to ride in the truck, but she LOVED camping in the Airstream! Whenever we brought it home from storage we had to be very careful to not let her out the front door. She would sit in front of the AS and not come in the house as she wasn't being left behind.

KT and Nacho - current companions. Australian Terriers, adopted Nacho first from the breeder, where I had been on a wait list for 6 months. When I went to pick him up, I feel in love with his mom, KT. The breeder was considering down sizing and asked if I would consider adopting her also if she made the decision. 6 months later she asked if I would still like to have her. Hubby said no way, but I wore him down and KT came to live with us. She is definitely his dog. She loves men more than women except for our daughter. She LOVES her.

They love riding in the truck, and have taken well to living in the Airstream, but they definitely miss having a big fenced yard so they can have their "zoomies". It is always great when we find a campground with a dog park.

It is definitely more complicated traveling with dogs, but their companionship makes up for all the hassle.

We travel with our 5 feathered kids.  They love to travel and talk a lot when we are driving on our roadtrip.  Our five feathers include R

Rosco a 20 year old African Grey Parrot.  He is daddies co-pilot and sits right behind the drivers seat in his cage and helps daddy drive.  He is a very smart boy and can live to be over 50 years old.  He was our first feathered kid, we adopted him at 3 months old.  African Greys have the mentality of a 5 year old so they can learn a lot.

Tango is a Sun Conure who is our peg legged parrot.  She lost her foot in an accident a few years back.  She was rescued by my Mother in Law around 12 years ago.  We think she is about 14 years old.  When my mom passed she joined our flock.  She is a mommies girl.  She doesn't like men (a man abused her).  she has a special bedroom which does not require her to climb.

Rexy is a Monk Parrot.  She was rescued from a towed car when her parents at the time got arrested.  She was neglected and terrified.  She has been with us for about 4 years and is probally around 5 years old.  It has been amazing watching her get comfortable with us and know she is loved.  She loves to play and talk to the TV.  Her favorite tv is Chica on the Sprout network.

Mark Anthony and Cleopatra are the latest additions to our family.  They are a bonded pair.  Mark was not social and never hand raised, Cleopatra was a little tamer.  Our vet thinks Mark is around 5 and Cleo around 3 years old.  We originally were foster parents when they were going to be put on the street.  They stole our heart and are now part of our flock.  They know they are loved and Mark is actually letting us hold and kiss him.  They have been with us around 6 months.

Our feathered kids are very spoiled.  They have their own bedroom in our RV (the sleeper cabin of the truck) with their own tv, a/c and heater.  Most of our fids talk and love to keep our house On wheels lively.   So if you ever see us, stop by the Lipson Chicken Coop.

Bernie,

In reality, I think the misuse of spelling is a common thing everywhere.  Sometimes it is simply a typographical error, as was your spelling of the word "apologize."  Then there are some who are really from the South or Southwest who, when speaking, have accents where they sound differently to people from other locales and cultures.

I am from Oklahoma and have a definite accent from many others, and I've been known to "enhance" that accent to make myself sound even more like a "hick" or "redneck."  I've been on forums for a number of years and this kind of "misspelling" is pretty common.

Unfortunately, there are some who take questions as non-constructive criticism, and other times, the same people recognize that they are simply questions.

I would suspect that in every nation, there are those that manage to misspell words or use the wrong word for the circumstance in which they are needed.

Now, let's get back onto the original topic.

EDIT:  Had to edit my own content.  I used the word "dialect" above instead of using "accent."

Terry

There, Their, They're peoples, lets not get into the grammer wars ....again...

South of the border means different things to different people in different areas of the country. For us, where we're sitting, south of the border means Mexico. For my wife, she is south of the border because she's Canadian. For me personally, South of the Border means a tourist trap on I-95 south at the South Carolina border..

We travel/life with 3 fur babies.. Sallie is my wife's diabetic service dog, lab mix and the perpetual 4 year old. then 2 cats, 1 Maine coon long hair that just as sweet as can be, the other cat is a 15 pound fur ball that want's to be waited on hand and foot..

We have Mocha, a chocolate lab/Chesapeake bay retriever mix. She loved playing fetch and catching a frisbee until she tore the ligaments in her knee. After knee surgery she became an inside companion and has adapted very well to the RV lifestyle! She has claimed the couch, an orthopedic bed on the floor at the foot of our bed, the space between the drivers and passenger seat, all the floor space under the table(preferably on our feet), and the middle of the bed for tv time as her spaces. She also has a dedicated cabinet for her cookies, leashes, rawhide, and towels (for rainy walk days).

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of our dear Jenny. She was a 10-1/2 year old Golden Retriever. She was diagnosed with cancer of the blood vessels a few weeks ago, and it took its toll quickly. We will miss her.

Previous to Jenny, we had two Goldens named Kate and Dakota. Katie lived to be 13 and Dakota made it to 12. Both died of cancer also, within a month of each other.

We marvel at how fortunate we were to have three such great dogs. We were really looking forward to being on the road with Jenny, as she loved traveling. She did make it to Florida, Maine and Yellowstone. She also got to see Jenny Lake in the Tetons, for which she was named. Katie and Dakota swam in both oceans, and visited 34 states and 4 Canadian provinces. While they are gone, we have a wealth of memories, thanks to our three furry kids.
