Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

GE Microwave Question (DRV36TKBS3) Model JVM1770XXyy

OK.

Here's a question .

Our GE microwave/convection oven ( JVM1790) (rest iof model # s trim information)  Blew out the interior light.

After looking in the Fine manual (as in read the FINE MANUAL [usually abbreviated RTFM!]) I discovered that according to the jvm1790 manual, it only takes into account changing the cooktop light.

After researching the parts department, I found a part number, and replacement 120v 20W halogen bulb, BUT

There is NOTHING describing where the bulb goes., and the only obvious place (on top surface looking down at floor of microwave) is a fan.

ANYONE have any ideas what screws to pull out on this puppy???

Cheers.

I can't be the ONLY person who ever blew the light on this microwave, but I'd swear it was just ommitted..

You have probably already been here but just in case you haven't: www.geappliances.com/search/google/infobase/10000253.htm And, if you don't get any answers on the forum, I would not hesitant to call the GE help line and ask as even when things are no longer under warranty, you can get someone that is helpful and will advise you. We are die-hard do-it-yourselfers so we always "shake the bushes" before giving in.

Most GE units require removing the upper grill to change the bulb........If Im not mistaken there is one screw hidden behind the control board witch means it also must be opened

Just changed our interior light about a month ago. Here goes"

1.- Remove the screw covers on the wood panel over the oven and remove the panel.
2.- On top of the oven you will see four screws along the top front edge of the oven that hold the grill in place, emove these screws.
3.- Gently pull out on the grill from both ends, it has plastic clips on both ends and along bottom so pull gently and they will come loose.
4.- Once the grill is removed, look in the front right corner of the fan area, next to the control pane and you will see a small metal cover, remove that cover.
5.- looking through the hole you will see the socket and bulb for the lamp. pull up on the socket to remove it from its holder and pull it our through the opening.
6.- You can now easily replace the bulb - do not touch new bulb with bare fingers or skin. If you do, wipe the glass completely clean with a clean dry cloth to remove any possibility of oil from your skin. Oil residue will cause hot spots on the bulb case and will shorten its life or possibly even cause it to explode as it heat up.

Hope this helps. you will need a standard #2 Phillips head and a "stubby" #2 Phillips head screw driver. Whole job takes about 15 - 20minutes once you know all of the above and figure out how to remove the socket. Took me about 30 minutes because I only knew where the bulb was located and had to figure out all the rest.

Resolved. But NOT without a ARRGUH, (and it isn't even "national talk like a pirates day,..That was September 19th...")

This post made me realize that the light WAS under the Grille at the top of the Microwave.

Arguh. Squared.

The Hint that it was at the TOP was what did it.

Quote (from doc above)

Remove the top grill by taking out the two screws that hold it in place.

**** YOUR #@$&^#@&#@&%@!!@ JERKS... THERE WERE no SCREWS!!!!!#$^%#@#&%

The ARGUH was that the GRILLE at the top WASN'T screwed in, on this model... IT was a snap-in, like the front or sides of a HP/Compaq PC

that had TABS, I had to ...FEEL for...

Remove the screw that secures the light housing. It is located above the door near the center of the oven.

Once I realized that, I used a knife to find the tabs, pop them out, and then found the  light housing as discussed above.

Of course this was the screw that I opened thru the grille, when I was SEARCHING for the screws in step 1:

At any rate, took the $5.00 replacement bulb from Lowes, (instead of the $23 bulb from GE) , and worked fine.

Oh, and the grille was FILLED with disgusting dust ... SO... .I left it for Cheryl to Clean... (what a nasty husband am I?!!!)

Cheers to all.

and I have a photo if you really want to see...

Signed... The nasty, nasty icky husband who left the dirty cleaning for the morning...

Oh, and Mike, did NOT need to remove control board, or unscrew it...
