Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

DRV factory tour

Hi All, Husband and I are thinking of doing the DRV factory tour on Sept. 22.  My problem is that I am not able to find a hotel/motel in the Howe vicinity that is pet friendly.  Does anyone have a suggestions on hotels/motels in that area?  Not sure if I am posting this in the right place.

You might have to go further afield. I know there are options in Goshen, and more to do there.

Look specifically in Shipshewana, IN.  Lots more to choose from there in various price ranges.  Further away but not a bad distance is Middlebury, IN.  There is a Hampton Inn there right on US-20.  Middlebury is a little further west but not a bad drive.  Besides, if you go west from Howe you will see some pretty country and more places to eat.  Driving is not a problem in the area.  US-20 goes by almost everything.  Shipshewana is on IN-5 just north off US-20.  Do lock yourself into the Howe area.

Well I did find the Holiday Inn Express located within walking distance they said, to the DRV Factory. Did not really want to go that high in price, but it is close. We will have our dog, and would not want to be to far from the Hotel/Motel. Traveling with pets can sometimes be inconvenient, but she is part of the family and wherever we go she goes. Do not like to board.
Thank you all for the input and info. Has anyone done the DRV factory tour?

Sandy,

Sadly, even though we own a DRV Suites Mobile Suites, we've never taken the tour.  However, from all those that I've read that said that they went, they all pretty much agreed that it was well worth the trip and time to do the tour.  Be sure and take a camera as there may be a lot of things you want to "record" for future reference.

If you are interested in the DRV's, you might check out SOITC (Suites Owners International Travel Club) and read more about them.  If you register there, you can even ask your own questions of the participants there.  We used the site extensively when we were researching for our Mobile Suites.  For the most part, there are good folks there.

If you do register and ask questions, ask if anyone has pictures from their factory tours.  If they can share them with you, that alone can be educational.  I've got photos that were taken by others, but they mostly date back to the time period of 2007 to 2010, so I don't know if all of them would be relevant to you.

Just as an aside, we've lived in our Mobile Suites now for over 3 years and love it.  We've experienced temperatures from 6 degrees up to 115 degrees and stayed comfortable.

We've done the tour about 8 times, 5 during the time when we were "designing " our semi- custom built unit.
If there is something you see in a rig that you don't like, comment on it. You'll be amazed. DRV will ask what you would like to have instead, and will make suggestions.
We had a lot of customizations- even moved windows.
Many of the things we ordered custom now come standard :)
Take lots of pictures, but when you are inside the units, try to take a pic of the floorplan first, so you'll remember later which one the pictures are of!
