Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Continental Coach Versus DRV

I know there is a a price difference..

I ordered a Loaded MS lexinginton .. all the options.. plus some custom.. Just seen these continental RV's, and I am liking them..alot. .. Found a couple 1 year old, used 45'.. even a 53' .. for not much more money..or maybe just buy new.

Many say these Continentals Are the best fifth wheel out there.. ( Please don't post about New Horizons or Spacecraft, Thank you. )

Maybe I'm making the wrong move with the DRV? The photo's of the Continentals just look more modern .. unlike the rustic look ..like the rest..

Anyone have a continental here? and want to share?

Maybe just run the DRV for a few years, then upgrade? It should be delivered 8/8.. in Tn.

Thanks.

Continental Coach is one of the three custom units available to us. Forksrv are the ones that build this unit. They are also the one that services our Teton's if we need factory service. They are actually under contract with Teton owner group. Some of the owners of Teton's when they trade up go to ForksRV. They along with the other two you don't want mentioned are the only companies that provides units comparable to our Tetons. I have made the statement that DRV is not in same class as Teton, CC, SC, NW. Some took it offensively. It is not. They are built to different standards. Good example, our Teton is a 2003. It looks better than any unit currently on market other than custom build. That is an 11 year old unit. NH even admits they copy Teton front chassis design for the "big and tall" standard. They were above the standard in their day. Unit you were looking at on Escapees is likely a quarter of a million. Not many are comfortable spending that. I could but what I would have to sacrifice to make payments I will not do. God bless.

While I love the look of all the Forks stuff what occured to me while watching a 2014 video of a unit on YouTube was the Old Slide technology, look at how Foretravel incorporates Flush slides....Also the benchmark for awning are IMO the clean looking Girrards, not the old bulky armed units....For a Top Quality expensive fifth not to incorporate the newest technology makes me think...

Can't really agree with you on that. The old Ram Technology is proven good. Personally both units we have owned use hydraulic rams. Never one problem. Cables are problematic, so are the Schwintek. I would much rather have the old trouble free slides over newer problematic.

Oh look.. A 3500 Ram pulling a big Continental coach... biggrin

Glenn.. Qtr mil? Drv's arent cheap either..Plus I seen a sweet used 2014 for 160k .. that's not far from drv land..And is just a little more than a 43' Elite.

As to Teton? Didn't they go out of business ? I know you keep vouching for them.. but your fighting a war that already has been lost?

Genecop.. That makes sense to me.. especially at the price point.. I have not looked into construction or anything. I just like the style over the tradition country looking coach.. If I ever get serious on it. I will look into that more.

Rv's are just outrageously expensive for what you get for the money !

Teton didn't loose battle. They sold out to another company and they closed them. I am comparing apples and oranges. Not promoting anyone buying a Teton. In there day they were the best, up to 2004ish. They hold up great, my point I was attempting to convey. How many units 11 years old can put to shame new units? finding a good Teton that has been taken care of is difficult. No unit neglected will hold up. Not that many out there either. The NH, CC,SC are built to the standards that Teton was built too. Sorry if I came off different. It is a very daunting job to find any used camper with any age that is in good shape. Lots of people are not diligent in maintenance. Water gets in and it's ruined. When it's time to replaced our Teton, we will look in CC likely. We really like this standard of camper. DRV don't fill that standard. But don't get that wrong either. DRV's are nice units. There are some things they are doing now I don't like. Cables and metal slides on slide outs. You will enjoy your DRV. You would enjoy a CC. You pocket book will be fuller with the DRV. God bless and happy camping

Teton went into bank forclosure. Just read it..Looks like 2008.. Assuming because of a lack of sales and profitability..I think it can happen to any small, full custom RV company. They just don't put out the numbers.. Camping world just bought a dealer in Colton CA, same way..

Anyways, I think when I am traveling around in the DRV.. I'd like to go vist some of the manufacturing.. problem is, they seem to be in places I wasn't headed to.. Maybe Have to add them to the list..

Thanks

These slides are as reliable as any older system out there ...but they have the additional benefit of flush clean lines, and much less air infiltration due to the bladder...sure my traditional slides have been trouble free, but that does not mean the slide cannot be improved...

Look closely, the photo shows the "flush clean lines"  I was referring to......as far as the mechanism just do some research if you are interested.....I think the Company is  HWH but I am not sure, it's been awhlie since I was considering a new Foretravel and become knowledgable and impressed with the Foretravel slide system....
