Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Which insurance carrier?

Next decision...which insurance carrier would be best for auto and RV insurance? Any complaints or good stories about the following?

Allied, Blue Sky or National General? So many decisions...so little time!

Our car and pickup are through USAA since I'm retired Navy. Rig is through Progressive since they are partnered with USAA for RV insurance. Other than that we would likely have gone with either Progressive directly or Miller Insurance or the Yust's firm (can't remember the full name) as a broker.

We would have gone with Progressive as we've been very happy with them for our cars, but they would not cover the Ford F550 (not even the commercial division). We went with Miller and so far so good.

I'd suggest looking at a broker like Miller Insurance.  We went with them a little over a year ago and got a good policy covering the Mobile Suites and F450 in one policy and the F150 in another.  We asked for coverage of full replacement, and Marlene at Miller's found two or three, one of which that would cover the full replacement with only showing our purchase invoice.

We ended up with National Interstate and also got Coach-Net coverage.

At least give them a try.  I tried various insurance entities and some couldn't help because they weren't "listed" in Oklahoma.

Allied was the cheapest on the quotes that I got. Cheap is not necessarily good, though. I want the one that will take care of me when I need them. That's why I was asking if anyone had any experience with any of them. I have gotten quotes from Miller in Oregon and Dougherty & Associates, Inc. in South Dakota.

I read National interstate, progressive , Usaa where decent.. Adding allied.

we got progressive for full timers. Checked others and all within a few dollars of each other for same coverage.

We have Allied. Our broker is Farm and City Insurance, who does RV insurance as http://www.rvadvantage.com/.  We have been with them for over 10 years and Allied is the third insurance company our policy has been with. Each time, Farm and City was proactive on making the change.   Originally it was Progressive, but Progressive changed their fulltimers coverage and got really weird about how they calculated their "best rates", so we moved to National Interstate.  A few years later National Interstate was being flakey about claims, so we moved to Allied.  We were told Progressive retracted the changes and National Interstate got better again, but Allied is staying good so why move back?  Our experience is you don't want to be locked into a particular insurance company, you want an RV friendly broker like Farm and City or Miller to watch out for you.

I went to miller and they gave me a quote from American Adventure or Blue sky.. can't tell.. $1700/yr.. rv only.. Is that High? 

Looks like they consider over 150 days .. full timing.. Question on the quote..

I'm looking at about 2K for truck and RV together. That's not bad. It would have cost me that much in Florida alone!

We had Progressive for years when we lived in the S&B. Started to go with them for the RV and truck, but one of the agents said they do not insure full-timers. I know many of you have progressive and are full-timers, but we just didn't want to risk having a future claim denied. We went with National General (not thru Miller but I believe Miller offers Nat General) and it ended up being $800 cheaper than Progressive anyway :)

I checked with USAA yesterday and they still pass all full timer RV policies to their partners at Progressive…including overs.

It seems to us that it is where your domicile is that matters on cost. We were originally residents of NC. Insurance was cheap. Changed our domicile to Texas and got sticker shock with insurance.
