Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Buying a new Class A diesel pusher

In the process of researching a purchase.  What information can you all give on the real skinny of offering a purchase price?  I've got the new car purchase down pat.  Research dealer invoice on specific model and options (it's out there), and then offer $200 over invoice.  It's worked perfectly for the last 3 car purchases.  Is there such information available on motor homes?  I would tend to doubt it since there's so many manufacturers out there.  Am I going into the sales office unarmed and merely having to stab at a price hoping that I got the best deal I could?  Interested in your experiences and insights.

Welcome, Kirk. I've not seen anything like what you describe for a car for an RV, but I've seen several places that the final selling price will be somewhere in the 70-80% of MSRP. If you have a trade-in you know that the dealers can play some real games with the numbers. Remember, too, that some dealers may need to more inventory much more quickly than others, and therefore are willing to make a bit less. Brands that are only sold from the factory may not offer as much off MSRP, but then make up for it by offering more for your trade. I don't know that for a fact, since I've never purchased a new MH.

What you should know before you buy a Big Rig Motorhome!
We want to Share what we have learned the hard way:
The two manufactures that combine to make your coach take virtually NO responsibility for each other product!!!
Most importantly “Almost No One in this country is qualified to work on you coach or Chassis”!
Our experience talking to and working with Newmar Service and FCCC that there are very few places with competent service people.
Getting Coach Service: Newmar factory Service is excellent but it takes 5 to 6 to get an appointment The only other choice for quality service per the Newmar Service Line is the Dealer in Ft Myer, FL or the one in Tucson AZ.

Just a thought. RV's depreciate with enthusiasm. You might consider one that is a couple of years old but is in "like new" condition (it can save you A LOT). Don't fret over miles on a diesel pusher ... they'll go for hundreds of thousands of miles. Do pay attention to the tires, they usually "age out" before they wear out. Good hunting.
